mov | wmv | 3gp | m4v On the streets of SoHo, I asked people to tell me about their experiences watching internet videos. One guy told me about the Max Mosley scandal video that came out as a result of YouTube. Clearly, citizen journalism is shaping what people watch. People go to the internet to watch fiction, comedy, entertainment and news. Jamison Tilsner and Josh Cohen curate, catalog and critique online shows on their website, Tilzy.tv They also blog about new developments in the developing online video industry. I sat down with Jamison and Josh in Washington Square Park to discuss the shows they are watching now. They recommend ViralCom and Cspot. Less

Forrester Research Unlocks Powerful (Free) Application to Guage Social Network Attitudes

Forrester Research has just opened to the public a powerful application and database which analysts have used to gauge the interest of customers in participating in social networks. The database, which provides profiles of customers of many companies in 10 nations, went live last week. It is free. I've done a little bit of exploring and there is quite a lot of information available to the public, data which had been reserved for high-paying corporate Forrester clients. This appears part of big marketing push by the research giant to establish a big footprint in social media. The release of the database is timed to a book and new blog, both titled Groundswell, by analysts Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff. I caught up with Josh earlier this week at the McGraw Hill Media Summit where he was a panelist on social media. -- Andy Plesser Less

During this set, beardtongue broke his bass drum pedal, lost 5 sticks, lost the hi-hat clutch while the stand rotated out of range, and knocked the snare drum off its stand by the time the performance was over. I hate to be that tommy aldridge kind of drummer who finishes off a solo by knocking everything over, but if there is one night in my life, and if ever a drumset wanted to be kicked around, it was my drumset last friday night. You can hear it a little bit. Less

St. Petersburg Noise artists SPIN and Mr. Fantastic combine to form the noise group The Uhhh. . . . which in turn were joined by Tampa musicians Dianna and Dave of Chiari Network, and myself on drumset. There is a loud feedback whine which I believe was intentional, so I left it in the recording. Less

Sun And Haw: Joshua Manchester, drumset and Clifton Ingram, guitar. Track 1

The guitar-drums duo of Ingram and Manchester marks a decided endeavor to explore musical understatement, a project that, by considering its relationship with “silence” respects some of the more restrained acoustic qualities of its instrumentation. The resulting compositional vehicles therefore take on a kind of “slow motion sleight of hand,” in which exposition and objuscation are readily available elements to be shuffled. This invitation into process, however, is rendered more enticing by means of the duo’s constant exploration of fresh, cinematic coloration. -Cliff Ingram Less
