This hour of The Roadhouse is chock full of great blues by artists you’ve heard of and artists you haven’t. It’s music from Chicago and Dockery Farms, from St. Louis and Dallas, from the 1920s and 2008. Sometimes the essence of a thing is so clear it needs no further explanation or exploration. That’s the deal in the 184th Roadhouse – it’s blues, unaffected, pure and simple. Big George Jackson, Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials, Magic Sam, Charley Patton, and EG Kight paint the deepest shades of blue you can imagine. Deep and fine and simple: the 184th Roadhouse Podcast. People who love Hooker tend to be purists about his work, so they hate this track. But I also love Santana. I think this duet verges on the sublime, frankly, more because of Santana than Hooker. Less

Jon Hammond for Alcatel-Lucent / Bell Labs: "On stage, on television or on the radio waves ?everyday I feel lucky because I’m ALWAYS ON! Jon HammondMusician, television personality and radio broadcaster Jon Hammond boarded a Concorde in 1981 to travel from New York to Paris at supersonic speed, and he never slowed down.Jon travels the world, touring in Europe and Asia two or three times each year while broadcasting his “HammondCast” morning radio show seven days a week. At home in the United States, Jon splits his time between New York City and San Francisco and performs four to five concerts each month at local hospitals, nursing homes and prisons. His cable television program, “The Jon Hammond Show,” is in its 25th year and going strong.“In my business, it’s essential to be contactable 24/7. I couldn't organize as much as I do without being ALWAYS ON.” Inspired by the Beatles and fascinated by the radio (he built a crystal radio at the age of five), Jon knew he was destined to be a musician. Although that’s a departure from tradition - Jon’s father and grandfather were physicians - Jon carries on the family business in his own way by performing in some of the very hospitals where his father once practiced medicine.“I've seen people get out of their wheelchairs and dance more times than I can count, so I’m happy I can make a difference playing for those who are less fortunate than me.”Jon has not forgotten those who opened doors for him when he was first starting out in music and broadcasting, and now he uses his radio and cable television shows to do the same for deserving young talent.Like Jon, we at Alcatel-Lucent are passionate about connecting people through communications technology. In our Bell Labs locations around the world, we’re working on new and exciting innovations in next-generation broadband technology to ensure people like Jon can find even more creative ways to share music, moments and memories. *Link: www1.alcatel-lucent.com/theworldisalwayson/jon.html Cast: Jon Hammond Less

Unless you were living under a rock for the past week, you'll know that Apple recently unleashed the 3G iPhone. Some say that the new phone doesn't quite live up to its expectations, including Leah, who sings you through the 3G iPhone's lackluster features in the remix video of her song, "3G iPhone Blues". 3G iPhone Blues - Original Song by Leah D'Emilio iPhone 3G iPhone 2.0 iPhone Apple Steve Jobs for more see http://mahalodaily.com/ Less

A new song about my bad tendency to just pack up and leave without warning. The first four lines from this song are all I remember from a very old song I wrote, just before I moved out to Los Angeles in 1990. The melody is new, as are the rest of the lyrics, which, obviously, actually borrow from my experience of moving to LA. In a nutshell, I sold almost everything I owned and left without telling anyone, and with barely enough money to support me for more than two weeks. In fact, it wasn't the last time in my life I have packed up and moved without letting anyone know, and my mother still panics if she hasn't heard from me for more that a few weeks, worried that I will call from a homeless shelter in Hollywood, or from an attic apartment in Omaha, or wherever, even though I haven't done this for years. "GONE" LYRICS: Caught a bus for the Hillcrest On the Nicollet side I paid a half-buck for the transfer And three for the ride Going to the west coast Going to LA I ain't told you but I'm going today And I'm gone Man I'm gone Ain't got much money I won't need it there Just enough for my meals And enough for my fare I'll send you a postcard From the Hollwyood sign I'll send you another From Hollywood and Vine But I'm gone Man I'm gone Don't cry now tears now Ain't no regrets You knew I was leaving From the moment we met I don't say no goodbyes now I don't take the time I'm packed and I'm leaving For Hollywood and Vine And I'm gone Man I'm gone Less
