A short, lyrically strange new song partly based on a dream. Not sure what to say about this one. It lacks a verse/chorus/verse type structure -- it's basically a long verse, a kind of prechorus, and then it slows down and repeats a couple of lines four times amid ocean sounds. My sometimes Internet collaborator Riadsala recorded the bassline I wrote. Less

The Power of Imagination
J.K. Rowling, best known as the author of the Harry Potter series, ... More
J.K. Rowling, best known as the author of the Harry Potter series, recently delivered an exceptional speech for the Commencement Ceremony at Harvard University. It’s an amazing discussion of the power of failure and imagination. It’s definitely worth your time to read the full text, or watch the video. She said, “We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power weneed inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.” Each of us has the power within us to change the world. Do you doubt it? Steve Jobs didn’t doubt it. He imagined a world where every person could have the same computing power that only large organizations had at that point. He dreamed of a world where computers were so user-friendly everybody could use them. John F. Kennedy didn’t doubt it. He had the vision that man could walk on the moon. He set forth his vision with the power of words to direct an entire country’s resources toward that mission. A short time later, Neil Armstrong uttered his famous words, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Martin Luther King didn’t doubt it. He had a dream that people would be judged solely by the contributions they made to society, not by the color of their skin. His dream led to a movement to bring equal opportunity to all. You may say that you don’t have … … the imagination of JK Rowling. To create a world that can inspire millions of young people to read again at a time when everyone thought that only video games could attract them. … the creativity of Steve Jobs. To see the possibilities for individuals to have access to technology at their fingertips. … the vision of John F. Kennedy. To see the impossible as possible and to inspire an entire nation to get behind the effort. … the oratory skills of Martin Luther King. To put the need for change front and center on the agenda of his country and to move people to effect that change. The unique power within you. You do have the power to imagine a better world and make a difference in your own life and the life of others. Your imagination flows from your unique genetic make-up and your personal experiences. No one else – who has ever walked on this earth, is here now, or ever will be – can duplicate what you have and who you are. You are one of a kind! It’s up to you to live up to the potential that is within you … just imagine! How will you leave the world a better place? What are you doing now to make a difference in the lives of others? The project - now a digital artist creation - not a particularly scientific investigation - involves capture of sleep pattern eye movements and EEG data, and using that information to drive the servos and switches of a robot - in effect playing back the night’s dream. They ask the provacative question: Would we want to store our dreams in some robotic form, just as we store our images in a photo album ? If this is art, of commercial value, who owns the intellectual property of the performance, since it was created involuntarily and subconciously by the artist. Get In Tune With Your Job
Today, we want to compare two great classic country songs – T... More
Today, we want to compare two great classic country songs – Take This Job and Shove It, made popular by the unforgettable Johnny Paycheck and On the Road Again by the great Willie Nelson. Shovin’ It A fun, yet angry song that most of us have sung a time or two in our careers. #1 – It’s just a job. He says, “Take this JOB …” It’s not a career or even a stepping-stone to another job. He’s not passionate about what he does; it’s just a paycheck (pun intended) accompanied by a miserable existence. #2 – He’s suffering for someone else. He says, “… my woman done left and took all the reasons I was working for.” He’s working at a job he hates to please someone else. It doesn’t work! #3 – Beware of imaginary traps. This isn’t a short-term gig. He’s been “working in this factory for nigh on fifteen years.” You can’t blame anyone else for your misery, especially for fifteen years! Yet how many people can cite a number of reasons to stay in a job they hate? Life is too short to be unhappy! #4 – He can’t stand his bosses. One’s a “dog”; the other’s a “fool”. It’s true that there are bad bosses in the world. However, have you ever met someone who NEVER has a good boss? Wouldn’t you think that somewhere along the way a good boss would come along? Lovin’ It A fun song that makes you feel free just by listening to it. #1 – He looks forward to work. He “just can’t wait to get on the road again.” When you love what you do, doin’ it just can’t come soon enough! #2 – He “makes music with [his] friends.” Have you ever been part of a team that clicked? You were so productive. Doesn’t it feel good? There’s something special about being part of an exceptional team. We all make music in our own way. #3 – He’s “going places that [he’s] never been.” Have you ever been around a group of people who inspired you to reach higher and higher? You want to spend as much time as you can with people like that. They’ll help you get to places that you’ve never been! #4 – He’s “seein’ things that [he] may never see again.” As you grow, you outgrow. You can look back with fond memories of where you used to be and how far you’ve come. So here are two overriding lessons to learn from these two great classics: YOU and you ALONE are in control of your life. If you don’t believe that, you have a HUGE problem. It’s the single most destructive thought you can have. Shovin’ It is the result. When you realize that you’re in control, you’re Lovin’ It. Life is an adventure of your own creation. Shovin’ It dreams of living while Lovin’ It is living his dreams. One dreams of telling his boss to shove it. But he still hasn’t done it. Did you realize that? We didn’t until we prepared for this blog. The other just can’t wait to get back on the road again to do what he loves to do some more. He’s living his dreams every day! We’ve talked about 2 songs here, but there are others that inspire us in our lives. What song gets you in tune? Let us know by sharing a Comment below! Our bigg quote today is by C.S. Lewis: “We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.” You’re never at a dead-end because you can always do a u-turn and get back on the road again that leads to your bigg dreams. Next time, we’ll discuss a costly mistake that you should NOT make. Until then, here’s to your bigg success! Related posts Your Potential Power Regrets...Had A Few? Your Potential Power
Today we’ll discuss how to tap into your hidden potential ... More
Today we’ll discuss how to tap into your hidden potential – that powerful force that lies within you. Find ways to bring it to the forefront and you’ll change your life, the life of those you love, and perhaps even the world! A lot of us tap into our potential, but the real question is this: Are you tapping into your FULL potential? If you’re like most of us, you’ve just scratched the surface of what you can do. You want to be all that you can be. The secret is to expose yourself to expose your potential. We’re not talking about doing something that will get you arrested! We mean that you should expose yourself to the following four “P’s”: #1 – Plan Start with where you want to be. Some time ago, we discussed how to visualize the life you want. Develop a clear vision of your dream life. A vision so clear in your mind that you FEEL yourself living it, as if it were actually happening right now. Then look at where you’re at now. Connect the dots – figure out how to get from where you are to where you want to be. #2 – People Spend your time with the right people – people who have already done what you want to do or people who are TRYING to do the same thing you are. The common denominator is common experiences. We recently attended a seminar with a speaker who talked about this very thing. She pays to get coached by mentors who can help her get to the next level. They’ve been where she is; so they can help her get where they are now. #3 – Programs We’re talking about media, books, and other resources that are available to you. Of course, we like to think that Bigg Success is your most important source for great information and inspiration. Pat, who is a regular listener, said this: “I listen to The Bigg Success Show every day on my way to work.It gets my mojo going.” Okay, enough shameless self-promotion. The point is there are a lot of great resources out there. One of our favorites is The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch. The only thing we don’t like about Donny’s show is that he spells “bigg” wrong! #4 – Projects Tackle a project you’ve never done before. Stretch yourself – get out of your comfort zone. It may be a project at work. Or a volunteer project. You can always take up a hobby. Or sign up for a class. It may be completely new to you or you may do something where you learn new skills in your specialty. Think back to your childhood. Was there an activity that used to fascinate you? Why not explore it again. You’ll find that it helps you personally and professionally. It will also help you learn more about your potential. Our final thought is simply this – TAKE ACTION! Finding your potential is a process. Pick a “P” and go for it! Subscribe to our show, our blog and/or our weekly newsletter – they’re all free! What have you done to discover your potential? Leave us a comment! Our Bigg Quote today is by Wilma Rudolph, the great athlete. “Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influenceof the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion. The potential for greatness lives within each of us.” There is power in your unfulfilled dreams and desires. Only you can find that latent potential within you and do the great things you were born to do. Next time, we’ll discuss the one ingredient that guarantees your success. Until then, here’s to your bigg success! Related posts: How Do You Define Success? Climbing The Stairway To Success ShareThis Less
