“Despite pockets of evil, the world overall is majestically beautiful, filled with many good and sincere people. God has provided a way to live in this world and not be contaminated by the degrading pressures evil agents spread throughout it. You can live a virtuous, productive, righteous life by following the plan of protection created by your Father in Heaven: His plan of happiness. It is contained in the scriptures and in the inspired declarations of His prophets. He clothed your intelligence with spirit and made it possible for you to enjoy the wonder of a physical body. When you use that body in the way He has decreed, you will grow in strength and capacity, avoid transgression, and be abundantly blessed. When God, our Eternal Father, and His Beloved Son appeared to Joseph Smith in that sublime vision in the Sacred Grove, They began to place on earth again that plan of happiness and all required to sustain it. Part of that restoration included additional sacred scriptures to complement the treasured record of the Bible. These precious scriptures are contained in the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. Our Father knew of our day. He prepared the scriptures and provided continuing divine guidance to sustain us. That help will assure that you can live with peace and happiness amid increasing evil.”

Responding to the last day of questioning for Judge Roberts, Nancy Northup provides a reality check on why his views on reproductive rights matter so much.

“As the questioning of Judge Roberts ended today, here at the Center for Reproductive Rights, we needed no reminder of the critical role of the rule of law in people’s lives.

“Today, the Center filed a lawsuit in federal court right after Missouri’s governor signed a law that would force the only abortion clinic in southwest Missouri to immediately stop providing abortions. And, that’s because the law singles out abortion providers for unnecessary and onerous regulations that are not imposed on doctors performing comparable procedures.

“In the Missouri case we filed today, as in so many other of our cases, our clients turn to the courts for an unbiased application of the rule of law. Women’s lives depend on it. And, that is why the Center for Reproductive Rights has been calling for a fair and open nomination and confirmation process.”

To be totally honest with you, I personally don’t think I will see a people who have sufficiently internalized the purport of the Atonement until I see a city where people don’t run red lights, don’t raise their voices in anger, don’t belittle or treat others with condescension, don’t do illegal downloading from the Internet, and don’t for even a fleeting moment believe that they are a superior being because of their gender.”

We have a challenge with our neighbors, family, and friends to help them overcome misinformation, prejudice, doubts, misunderstandings, rumors, falsehoods, and incorrect traditions that keep many from reading or understanding the Book of Mormon. Most people in the world and many in the Church do not realize that the Book of Mormon will help a person get nearer to God ‘than by any other book.’ It will help us obey the laws and ordinances of His gospel. But it is not only a matter of impressive quantity, it is also a qualitative matter, since dazzling doctrines came through the Prophet, including key doctrines previously lost from the face of the earth, a loss that caused people to ‘stumble exceedingly.’ Plain and precious things, because of faulty transmission, were kept back or taken away, and thus do not appear in our treasured Holy Bible. Others, as Enoch foresaw, are part of the preparation for the Savior’s Second Coming, when ‘the heavens shall be darkened, and a veil of darkness shall cover the earth; and the heavens shall shake, and also the earth; and great tribulations shall be among the children of men, but,’ said the Lord, ‘my people will I preserve.’ And when Enoch saw all these things, he ‘received a fulness of joy.’”
