Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has been talking about their web services business unit a lot lately. Moments after he left the stage at the Web 2.0 Summit last week I was able to speak to him about three of their most recent web service offerings: Mechanical Turk, Simple Storage Service (S3) and Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). This is a short podcast but you get a glimpse of how important this new business line is to Amazon’s future. The full post is on TechCrunch.

The beautiful and great-sounding Vittum Theater played host to Dan, Bill, Jayve and I as part of the Around The Coyote Arts Festival in Chicago’s Wicker Park. Ellyzabeth Adler danced for the middle section. If you listen closely at the beginning, a superball flew loose of its handle and bounced across stage striking the guitarist Bill. As we looked at each other frozen with consternation, Dan produced a Chinese massage ball without missing a beat and sent it jangling across stage at me. When Ellyzabeth made her entrance, she incorporated the balls into her dancing as well.

You said it couldn’t be done, and yet here we are again to bring you show number two! This time we share our bandwidth with Jerry, the lead vocalist for the band Requiem. For those of you who don’t know, Requiem is a five piece out of Salinas. So what do they sound like? If you can’t get your lazy ass to listen to the songs on the stream you don’t deserve shit. Alright, so the reality is I don’t know how exactly to classify them. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear them is old Thrice, I mean pre Artist in the Ambulance, and maybe even pre Illusion of Safety. Not that the necessarily sound alike, but the raw energy and the musical talent are definitely overriding factors. We contemplated labeling it “Butt Rock” but we make a couple of jokes at the bands expense (including an inability to remember Jerry’s last name) and we don’t want to upset them. In reality they’re awesome musicians and nice guys, I promise.

I also promise some big interviews in the weeks to come. We’re talking artist who have sold in the four figures and have toured not only America but other places (until we find out what to call places that aren’t America they’ll just be called Not-America). We’re talking about people who have played in bands you might have heard of! At the moment I won’t reveal any names because I know I’ll fuck it up if I say anything. So, just hold tight and pray for us and any money would be appreciated.

Speaking of giving us stuff, I’ve decided we should have the tagline “Sound Scene Revolution: until you start paying us or giving us free stuff, we don’t give a shit”. I don’t know if that’s final but it’s something I’m kicking around. Another idea was, “Sound Scene Revolution: it’s what Lando Calrissian would want you to listen to”. But that gets into a whole copyright issue. Regardless, if you have any questions or comments hit us up at soundscenerevolution@gmail.com or use our message board (which is now back up and running for all two of you who care). Thanks again, and be sure to check back in the coming weeks for more awesome guests.

Casey was born to musical parents; both members of the legendary Bentmen who are still pushing the limits of experimental theatre-rock. At the age of 14, Casey decided to form a band with some schoolmates and released an album which got some airplay on local college radio. She then recorded a solo album, and started playing coffee-houses and clubs around New England.

Now 19, Casey has recorded a new album, available at CDBaby, and from what I have heard there, it really kicks!

Kickin' tunes on today's podcast:

Many sites around the Internet offer a chance for you to donate money for their cause. I suppose the idea is something similar to a tip jar. I think I’d be very happy if people would just leave a freaking comment every now and then. (HINT!) I should also mention that this is podcast #20 from guypluspodcast! Next week, in addition to our regular show, I’ll include a list of stats on the first 20 podcasts (favorites, longest, shortest, most & least popular). Total Podcast Time: 27:25 • File Size: 25.2 MB Artist Title Comments Donnie Darko Kitty Farmer’s Anus Somehow, I doubt Donnie used the word “anus” when addressing Kitty Farmer. Truly Leslie’s Coughing Up Blood Truly should have been world-wide superstars, but they all died. Detroit Cobras Hey Sailor This is a cover of “Hey Sah-Lo-Ney” by Mickey Lee Lane in 1965. How long has it been since you heard a band devote this much energy to a song? B-52s Rock Lobster Look… this is just a great song that worked well with the podcast mix. You got a problem with that? Listen to the incredible work by the drummer! Sahara Hotnights Difference Between Love & Hell From their debut album. Other than Abba, Sahara Hotnights are the only other Swedish rock/pop group I can think of. And they’re all girls too! Rock on. Frank Zappa The Florida Airport Tape Life as a rock star can be… nauseating. The New Pornographers Use It I stated a few podcasts ago that their album, Twin Cinema , is a work of musical pop genius… and I wasn’t kidding. Here’s another example but don’t worry, I won’t flood the rest of my shows with their music. Cheap Trick Reach Out From the soundtrack to the movie Heavy Metal . This is the song that’s played during the Captain Stern episode. I bet you didn’t realize Cheap Trick could rock out like this! Maxïmo Park I Am Not An Acrobat A completely different (and beautiful) side to our beloved Maxïmo Park. Donnie Darko 28 days 6 hours 42 minutes 12 seconds End NEXT PODCAST: Our next podcast will mourn and pay homage to Mr. John Peel who passed away one year ago on October 13th. For this podcast, I’ll compile samples of Peel’s voice as well as play music recorded from his show on BBC1. The challenge is going to be finding the dates of many of the shows I’m researching since some of the older material is only listed by year of broadcast. Wish me luck and please join us next Wednesday!

Our first program focuses on interpretations of Bach’s music outside of the realm of the "classical" tradition. When these recordings first came out, the notion that a bastion of Western music like Bach could (and possibly should) be played in nontraditional settings probably seemed sacreligious or at the very least somewhat offensive. However, these performances shed new light on a musical world dominated by dogmatic ideas of what is "correct" performance, and provide a fresh look at old standards in any classical musician’s repertoire. Standard interpretations and modern ones are paired, and the result is sometimes thought provoking and sometimes funny. Enjoy our first podcast.
