We sat down and spoke with two members of the super group called Arab Summit. They were Tariq a solo artist and Narcy of the Montreal based group Euphrates. The pair discussed everything under the sun including Arab identity, overcoming stereotypes and Black-Arab Relations. We also talked about the important role Hip Hop has been playing in Arab politics and how it has been used as a socializing and politicizing force throughout the Middle East. Because Hip Hop has become so powerful in other places where we find people who consider themselves oppressed, one can’t help but wonder if that’s somehow connected to the current attacks Hip Hop is coming under here in the states. We address that issue in this interview. We also talked about the role Arab women play in Hip Hop and how it coincides with their role in society. Less
