As Wired Magazine noted Wired Blog:Why Cable will survive, Americans love their TV. And although satellite and telco providers have been making some inroads, they have had little success. Of course, early adopters or the NPR crowd already get their entertainment online and their movies from NetFlix. But they still have to get their net connection. And it’s becoming increasingly obvious that for many people, that cable modem is going to be one of the last things that is going to get cut out of the household budget, even if it is right up there with the house payment, medical care, and food. The one industry that is really going to be hurting is XM-Sirius. They were almost last years/decade’s story before the economy started to head south. And those millions of iPods are being put to good use - as over the air radio tries for the nth time to re-invent itself and convince us that we really need HD-radio as another commuter choice. No doubt some pay-per-view and premium tiers are going to feel the pinch. But that basic level and cable modem is going to be there almost until the lights go out.
