Hello Music Fans...it's about time we got together again and started to make things happen musically! IN THE GOOD WAY!Thanks for checking out The Rock'N'Soul!I'm trying my friends, I'm tryin'to give ya' different music styles that tantalize.: Man, does it get difficult to listen to radio the way we did when we were kids....What has happened to music on radio? For that matter, what has happened to RADIO? My God! I can't listen to most radio anymore! Lest it is Joe Duley's Rock'N'Soul, NEXT, BAND WITH or some of XM. OK, let me clarify... I Love music! I have a passion for music. As do my wife and friends, all of with whom I discuss music. Currently, I reside in the DC area, and listen to local radio stations in Baltimore, Annapolis and DC...There is little difference in the style of presentation (regardless of the same ole' tired formats). It nearly all sucks! Nearly. There are precious few [radio stations] which still dare to dream, and share good music -in all its Glory! But as stated, few and far between do so.Most radio stations regurgitate the same one-course meal of music. It's oatmeal. Plain. Not even a little Brown Sugar. Most cookie cutter clone-like stations brow beat us with inane banter and imaging (trite touts about how "We're your fill-in-the blank station for...." all things that bore)THEN BOOM!Commercials. LOUD commercials.Quick intros with no back story to the song, no artist info nor history of said music. They, The Powers That Be have sanitized music for our protection. They have cut back the play lists, because some Madison Ave. mutt says "marketing shows" BS...and then...TODAY'S RADIO. Hmmm???They blast us with rousing rendition's of THE CARPENTERS "Jambalaya", an angst ridden version of NIRVANA covering a DAVID BOWIE tune, then we jump with joyous glee as we hear the final notes of the latest Justin Timberflake tune. This is middle of the road? Thanks A-holes!WTF? They seem to give us more imagining to let us know how great they are...THEN back to STEPPENWOLF'S "Magic Carpet Ride"...STEPPENWOLF is a pretty damn good group who have been around for a while. They have over a dozen albums!Let's hear something else besides "Born To Be Wild". Variety is the spice of Life. As much as I love my wife's Baked Ziti with red wine; try as I might, I can not consume that magnificant meal three times a day! Change it up a little Program Directors! Of course, I combinded the bashing of the above into one format.: I sanitized it for us. Folks, demand more from YOUR radio stations!Let them know you're not a drone, nor should they be! Last March, around St. Patty's Day, whilst enjoying a beer with my friend Rich Fisher (knowledgeable Baltimore Radio Dude) and I conducted an experiment regarding terrestrial radio (and SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO): We listened to the radio stations in the region...we went up the dial from 88 to 107 on our frequency modulated stereo device.Between the two of us, we:- knew every song and artistand/or- knew nearly every format and station which hurled a small play list at us (with the imaging and promos)- knew that the jock would break in with little to say, and display even less passion than Marilyn Manson at a Monster Truck Rally. What does that say?Rich and I are hardly all-knowing Gods of music. As a matter of fact, he and I don't even like the same styles of music. But between the two of us, we knew it all- just like many people with whom we speak regarding music on our respective shows.Producer Jon is a decade younger than I, and he knows music as well. He's a fellow-jock and his tastes differ from mine, and yet, he, Rich and I we were ALL on the same page when it came to lamenting the music (or lack of) on today's radio. What does that say?You tell me.
