We are mortal and by virtue of our fallen nature we have the predisposition to sin. Not many of us, last time I looked, are on a list of people to be translated. How dare we be so human? How dare we make mistakes? Making mistakes is, however, part of our mortal experience. But we need not continue in sin and error. One of the breathtakingly beautiful realities of the gospel of Jesus Christ is the gift of repentance. In the Hebrew of the Old Testament the word for repentance is shube, which means to turn.
