From Mike in Nicaragua on Apr 7, 2008 - Well, I have an update on Gerson and it is not good.  Rosalina and Gerson traveled to Managua on Sat.  Gerson was seen on Sun and treatment started.  However, the treatment was too difficult for Gerson and it had to be stopped.  The doctors sent him home today and told his mother they could do nothing for him.  He is going to die.  They don’t know how long he has but suspect three or four days.  I was not here when they came to the clinic but Benny, Ann, and several others said he was just a shell.  Couldn't even move.   Rosalina was in grief shock as any parent would be with such news. First, I need you to pray for some relief from the pain for Gerson and for comfort and strength of Rosalina. Second, for those of you who have already contributed (and you know who you are), I would like your permission to use the money to buy comfort items for Gerson.  He needs a small fan to help him stay cool, he is very feverish, diapers, some food he may be able to keep down, he needs some nice clothes to be buried in so that he can be buried with dignity - something so many children here in Nicaragua don’t get.  And, since this is a poor family I would like to buy the coffin and pay for the funeral. I don’t think all this will cost more than what has already been donated.  If so, I can let you know and others who have contacted me may want to help.
