Surprisingly the United Nations had not yet won the coveted Douchebag of the Week award before today, though it has not been for a lack of trying, there have just been so many worthy nominees that the UN has not risen to the level needed to win…until now. Need proof that the UN has no ability to learn from past mistakes and is an anti-American, anti-Israel, anti-freedom socialist organization?  Remember when they appointed Sudan to the Human Rights Commission?  An nation that is still practicing slavery having a say over complaints on human rights abuses should have tipped even the most Utopian liberal, but hypocrisy never seems to bother them. That is why the UN elected Jean Ziegler to be a member of their “advisory committee” to the UN’s Human Rights Council.  What wrong with Ziegler?  Aside from his support and praise for Fidel Castro, Robert Mugabe, Kim Il-Sung and nearly every other left-wing dictator you can imagine, he’s also praised a well-known French Holocaust denier as “one of the leading thinkers of our time.” Clearly Ziegler is much more interested in advancing an anti-freedom agenda than he is human rights, which will mean he will fit in quite nicely at the United Nations.  It also means he’s a complete douchebag on monumental scale. But since he didn’t choose himself to join a committee that is the antithesis of everything he stands for, he was chosen by bureaucrats at the UN, it is they, not he, who wins the prestigious Douchebag of the Week Award.  Your tax dollars hard at work.
