My wife and I recently watched an episode of Good Eats, and the subject was homemade popcorn. Let me tell you right now, folks, that homemade popcorn is better tasting, healthier, and much cheaper than anything you’ll buy in the store by far. Far be it for me to turn the podcast into a cooking show, but here’s how easy this is. You’ll need: 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels - you can pick up a jar of popcorn for about $3 and it’ll make 20 - 25 batches 2 tablespoons of oil - olive, soybean, peanut, whatever you like 1/4 tsp salt Put all the ingredients in a big pot with a lid. Put the lid on. Put on high heat and shake constantly with a horizontal motion until you hear the first kernel pop, then turn down the heat to medium while the popcorn pops. Keep shaking. Once popping slows down, kill the heat. Keep shaking. Once the last few kernels have popped, transfer right away to a bowl and serve. Congratulations! You’ve just made homemade popcorn that is as good or better than anything that comes out of your microwave, both from a taste and health perspective, and it’s dirt cheap to make. ShareThis Less
