“Different Music|Different Genres|Your Digital Mixtape”

This is how I think of my netcast. I have been racking me brain on what formula I follow when I put together my show and I have come to a conclusion that I don’t have a formula. I just enjoy music and whatever sounds good to me and if I can put it together in my mind that is what I do. I have always listened to music and made mixtapes for myself back in the day in this fashion; whether it was r&b, pop, jazz, I tried to mesh them all together. Now of course this was my personal way of doing mixtapes but isn’t that the way it is for all of us?

Enjoy

what’s going on everyone I have to admit, for some reason this podcast was actually fun putting together. Maybe it’s because I think I have found my niche in reference to recording my podcast, maybe it’s because I’m bringing this to you bi-weekly instead of every week. I don’t know but I think this is a pretty good collection of music for this show. Thanx to my geek brother Steve for suggestion I need to begin putting piano composition in the podcast so this one has two piano solos and a couple of well known pianist. As always kick back, unwind, relax and enjoy. this podcast is going out to my Vox buddies, Steve, Jen(in Colorado), Matt, Lauren, Shawn, Suni, Jen(in NY) and the rest of the Vox neighbors that’s been with me from the very beginning. These 3 cassettes LPs I converted makes me think of a time when began the road of truly seeing myself as my Creator sees me. I met and worked with cool people, worked in a place where being surrounded by nice music, astronomy, nature, learning about rocks and minerals…it was like heaven. I have to admit I screwed up the job because I wore my emotions on my sleeves when it came to my manager/boss and in the end it was my undoing. But the time I was there I learned that it was truly cool to like science and nature and working in that type of environment I met people that conversation was warm, informing, challenging, and made you seek to do better with your life.

It has taking me a minute to get another ThriftStoreGems converted but I am happy to say it is…complete. This one I am really happy to bring you because of the musicians I have had a chance to convert the cassette LPs for me has been a blessing to sit back and listen to the music. My main love with music is the instrumental tunes. Even before I knew to call the instrumentals (back in the day I would call them “music without words” or worse…”elevator music”) The four artists I will be showcasing I really enjoy listening to time and time again. One LP is a duo(Steve Rodby and Ross Traut) a pianist (Liz Story) and pianist/keyboardist (Fred Simon). Three of the artists have recorded on the Windham Hill Record label when Will Ackerman was at the helm (and to me that is when the record label was at its best). One thing about this selection of music is that it’s cool to play this to unwind, when having dinner guest over, chilling with you and sweetheart. Three of the artists have recorded on the Windham Hill Record label when Will Ackerman was at the helm (and to me that is when the record label was at its best). One thing about this selection of music is that it’s cool to play this to unwind, when having dinner guest over, chilling with you and sweetheart. One cassette I have had for over 10 years, one I found at the thrift store and the other I also have on CD but I converted the cassette to digital for sentimental reason(this cassette LP I have also owned for over 10 years). I have to admit the Duo Life cassette LP by Steve Rodby and Ross Traut had to grow on me. This is the cassette I have had in my possession for over 10 years and the other track I truly enjoyed was the cover song, “People Make the World Go Round”. It was only this past week that sitting and converting it that I truly began to appreciate the great work by these two gifted musicians. Ross Traut being a talented guitarist who has played with Michael Franks(my hero), Jaco Pastorius, Gil Goldstein, Cliff Carter, Pat Metheny, Narada Michael Walden, Steve Morse, Mark Egan, Danny Gottleib and Hiram Bullock. Steve Rodby first caught my ear when I heard him lay down the bass line on Fred Simon’s “Usually/Always” tune. Later I found out that he has been with The Pat Methany Group for a while and he has also produced for Fred Simon and Michael Manring (another great bassist in his on right). I have a couple of Pat Methany CDs but I am blessed to have held on to his recording with Ross [Traut] and I blessed to have really come to appreciate his solo bass work on Duo Life. Liz Story is one of the artists that began on the Windham Hill label. I first heard her play when purchasing the Windham Hill 86 Sampler(which I have that sampler on CD and cassette). I listen to her when I have had a stressful day and the only instrument I wish to hear is the piano. Some of her composition brings tears of joy to my eyes and sometime if I need to go to sleep I can through on a couple of tunes from this gifted pianist and I am off to la-la land. Imagine my surprise coming across a cassette LP of Ms. Story at our local thrift store. I snatched that up with a quickness and now I am able to bringing my favorite tracks from this cassette LP The first time I hear “Usually/Always” track on the radio I admittedly called the radio station and asked what artist was that and when I found out it was Fred Simon I had to run out buy the cassette LP. This cassette is over 10 years old but I never grow tired this entire LP. It’s a wonder I never wore out the cassette because I played it to death. I think Fred Simon has only recorded one LP on the Windham Hill label and I have to begin trying to find other recording by this wonderful keyboardist. Steve Rodby produced this LP and also places the acoustic bass on every track which is a true treat (this is how I find out about many musicians by reading the liner notes). I was so tempted to put every track from this LP on this podcast but that would have been greedy and I truly think you should have this LP in your music catalog. I love the percussions, I love the vocal harmony, the synthesizers, for me it gives me that, “finding true love feeling” with most tracks. The only track that has a somber/dramatic feel to it is “Bad Lands” which I love the sliding guitar and strong drum line in this track. What was really cool is when I finally purchased the CD and it had an extra track on it (I will have to post that another time). Enjoy this podcast because I had fun picking out the tunes. click here to listen{right click to download} Steve Rodby/Ross Traut-Duo Life o1. people make the world go round(o3:33)(o4:2o) o2. don’t make me over(o7:51)(o5:o2) o3. trout stream(12:43)(o4:43) 04.
I have to admit on this podcast most of these songs i just took a chance and downloaded them because ioda promonet did not let me sample most of the songs(hey it happens but I’m still thankful where i have a place to download songs knowing it will not be any static to play them for the masses)...I have to admit, I was blessed with selection. I also have to give a big shout out to Macedonia and Doug Fresh. Doug Fresh for his latest podast. This cat puts out great podcast but this one he truly hit a grand slam. Every track for me was a progression because each song got better and better. Kudos for this wonderful podcast. It has received HEAVY rotation on my iPod. The other shout out is to my man Macedonia{http://bsots.com} First off he gave my podcast a cool shout out stating that I was one of the podcast that was getting through a difficult day. I have to admit after my last class I was just whipped and I had fell into a funk. did not want to do a podcast, discourage on the look of my blogs, I just wasn’t feeling it. So what did I do? At first I wanted to jump ship over to Wordpress but I have build a following here on my Blogger account so I took the plunge and began doing something I had thought I never had in me and began searching for other themes. I have tried this before and did not succeed but this time I stuck with it and after a couple of hours I think I may have gotten the hang of it and I think I found a clean, minimum look for my blog. My hat’s off to web designers, I will be keeping this blog theme for a while because that takes time to do this. Sometimes it’s good to shake things up from time to time. I finally broke down and snatched out the smaller hard drive in my laptop and install a larger hard drive so I have more room if I wish to save some music on this laptop or not. I have other works by Andreas but this will always be my favorite by him. What blew me away was this was the only LP besides Pink Floyd’s The Wall that just about every track blended into the next one.
Man it has felt like a lifetime since recording MyLoveForMusic but it really hasn’t. This episode I have to admit is a little more up tempo than I usually record but I guess with the weather we may need to move around a little I guess. I try and be diverse because it’s cool to come across different music. I have decided to begin to try and bring them under an hour because I think that is longer enough for a podcast and also many people still do not have mp3 players and if they wish to burn the netcast to a CD they can. Big, BIG shout out again to Todd Grundy, Anewlis for coming up with the concept of “Cupid’s Hunt” and it was really cool for many of the netcasters to come together and to be able to hear the different styles of music was really awesome. I hope you enjoy the selection of music this weekend and as always… Be Blessed, Be Safe, & Have a Wonderful Weekend 01. Jealousy-Tony Allen 02.
What started out as what I thought was going to be easy turned out to be a much tougher but fun project. The cool thing about being diverse in music is that you have huge selection of music to choose from but the worst thing about being diverse in music is, well…the huge selection of music to choose from. Valentine’s Day has always been special to me because I was that geek that always believed in true love(and man o’ man I had my heart crushed so many times, but hey that’s in the past). When it came to music for me it didn’t matter if music genre was r&b, rock, country, pop…if the lyrics had deep meaning and the music arrangement was cool, I had to have it. Fast forward some years where I began listening to jazz, new age, ambient for me that was icing on the cake. The selection I have chosen comes from different genres but for me they speak one language…love, good times, hope, romance. I hope these tracks move you the way they moved over the years and as always… Be Blessed, Be Safe...

So much is going on these days with me…school, TGrundy’s “Cupid Hunt” (I finally got my list down to the 12 track I want from 45). This should be pretty interesting getting a chance to have different netcast all on one day to share their taste of music. But for now lets concentrate on why you are here today which is another edition of MyLoveForMusic. This set of music is kinda uptempo (just a little) but as always I have to bring you jazz, new age, electronic and this time a little bluegrass. Big shout out to Todd Kelley, KB, and Macedonia for great mixes for me to study to this week and as I wrote earlier this week for helping me find my love for true hip-hop & instrumental flowing music. Check out the music…kick the tires, take it for a test drive and as always, Be Blessed, Be Safe, & Have a Wonderful Weekend. Many thanx to ejflavors for the space to showcase my choice of tunes music in it’s playing order 01.

This should have been posted last week but family events came up and to be honest I was a “little” lazy but I’m back on track with ThriftStoreGems. This is part 2 of the artists Danny Wilson, Sam Cardon, T-Square and the compilation cassette LP GRP Presents The Wave 102.5fm.
