Just after the release of 1st P their bassist, known only as “POLY-2”, left. The band dropped the “POLY-X” names, and reduced to a trio, with new member Fumi on Bass Support on some of the tracks from Neu. In 1999, Asian Man Records released their US Debut album, Hey! Bob! My Friend to rave reviews, but weak sales. The album was a compilation of tracks from their first two Japanese releases. In 2000, Polysics signed to Ki/oon Records (a subsidiary of Sony Music Japan Inc.) and released their first major album Neu. The album carried with it the same manic energy as their independent releases but more refined. The manic punk energy was minimized, but the band showed it had an amazing sense of harmony and style. The songs “Black Out Fall Out” and “Code 4” from this album are very emotional. In 2003, drummer Junichi Sugai left the band after recording the Kaja Kaja Goo EP. For the 2003 album National P, Ishimaru joined on Drum Support, returning Polysics to a trio. Also in 2003, Neu was released on Asian Man Records in the United States to rave reviews and great sales. Polysics went to the US to tour, which was then captured on the PippikkippippiP In USA DVD. In 2004, Polysics released a Best Of compilation titled Polysics or Die!!!! in Europe and the USA. Polysics toured Europe and the US for the 2005 US Release of Polysics or Die!!!!. With the early 2006 release of “Now Is The Time!”, they toured the US and the UK, supporting high profile UK bands such as Graham Coxon and the Kaiser Chiefs.</itunes:subtitle>

Just after its release, Derin Esmer moved to the USA and was replaced by prominent guitarist Kerem ÖzyeÄŸen. After the devastating 1999 Kocaeli earthquake, Mor ve Ötesi started playing more on social and political themes. They were also very active in the opposition against the use of nuclear energy in Turkey. In 2001, they realised their third album, “Gül Kendine”. With Kerem ÖzyeÄŸen, there was a noticeable change in the music, and after 17 August there was a noticeable change in lyrics. In the summer of 2003, Mor ve Ötesi’s single, “Yaz” debuted, which was a cover of the famous song performed by the famous Turkish superstar Ajda Pekkan during the seventies. Their fourth album “Dünya Yalan Söylüyor” was released in 2004. The album became their most popular album in Turkey but was not admired by their old fans as much as their previous work. The album contained considerable political criticism against USA’s activities both in Iraq and the rest of the world. The very same year, they received a Golden Orange Award for their music for the movie, “Mustafa Hakkında Her Åžey”. Their fifth album “Büyük Düşler” (Big Dreams) was released on May 8, 2006. This is an album mainly dealing with the political problems of Turkey and the personal problems of the group members, including loss of family members and relationships. It has a darker tone compared to their previous albums. This album is regarded as a homage to their old fan base and a return to a style closer to their earlier albums. The first video was for the song “Åžirket” (Corporation), a song criticising capitalism.</itunes:subtitle>

Duman is a Turkish rock band. The band combines elements of traditional Turkish folk music with modern rock (in particular, grunge). Duman consists of Kaan Tangöze (vocals and rhythm guitar), Batuhan Mutlugil (lead guitar and backing vocals), and Ari Barokas (bass guitar and backing vocals). [edit] History In the early 90s, Kaan had been living in Seattle. It was here that he wrote his first song for the Turkish rock band he would form in the future. At the time he performed with a band called Mad Madame. When he returned to Turkey, he met Batuhan Mutlugil and Ari Barokas who were performing with the Blue Blues Band. Together they formed the band “Duman” (a Turkish word for “smoke”). After some search for a drummer, they decided to work with out-of-band drummers. They worked with drummer Alen Konako?lu for a long time until their last album. Duman has recorded four albums, one of which is a live album. They released their first album, “Eski Köprünün Alt?nda” in 1999 and second, “Bel...

She released her debut album, Afterglow, in 1999 to generally positive reviews. A song-oriented pop outing, it was followed by the electro and house music inspired We Are Science in 2002. Allison’s touring group includes members of The Fall, Two Lone Swordsmen, Tindersticks, Death in Vegas, Massive Attack, and Tokyo Windbag. Sierra (nicknamed “Rosie” by her mother) is the oldest of the two and born in Iowa. Bianca (nicknamed “Coco” by her mother) was born in Hawaii. Their mother, a teacher and artist, would compulsively move the girls across the country from one state to another. Their estranged father travelled around the US teaching in Steiner Waldorf schools, and was involved in Shamanism and Peyote Religion. Sierra and Bianca spent their summers hiking from reservation to reservation with their father. When Sierra was 5 years old and Bianca 3, their parents divorced. During this period in her life, Sierra lost contact with her sister. She changed schools practically every year. In 2000, at age 20, Sierra moved into a tiny apartment in the Montmartre district in Paris, France to pursue a career as an Opera singer, studying at the Paris Conservatory. During this period, Bianca studied linguistics and sociology, and pursued her passion of visual arts and writing. She also managed to collect a variety of tattoos, and was known to attend “Kill Whitie” parties in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. [edit] Birth of CocoRosie In 2003, Bianca was growing restless and decided it was time for a change. She left her apartment in Brooklyn, New York and decided to travel the world. Unexpectedly, Bianca showed up at Sierra’s apartment in Paris. It had been nearly a decade since the two last saw each other. Over the course of the two months, the sisters practically locked themselves in Sierra’s bathroom, chosen by the two as the most acoustic and isolated room in the apartment. After a month of experimenting in the bathtub and rarely leaving the apartment, they had completed their debut album La Maison de Mon Rêve. The album included sounds from many toys purchased in their neighborhood. “La Maison de Mon Rêve” was never originally intended to be distributed outside of a close circle of friends, however by 2004 the lo-fi album was released under independent label Touch and Go Records who had received a copy of the CD, and in a rare case pursued signing the unsolicited artists. Since the creation of their first album, the two have been practically inseparable. [edit] Currently Bianca (age 23), and Sierra (age 25) share an apartment in Brooklyn, New York. Sierra has since started a new band “Metallic Falcons” with friend Matteah Baim, which is currently signed under a new label started by Bianca with the help of business partner Melissa Shimkovitz called “Voodoo Eros Records”. CocoRosie expects to release a new album in Spring of 2007. They will do a small tour of Brazil and some of the United States and then begin to work on the new album.</itunes:subtitle>

Author: Chris_Docker from Scotland, United Kingdom An Italian movie that starts as a pleasant but otherwise unremarkable tale of a nine year old marriage and an old man wandering the streets with no memory and a pocketful of money. We are drawn in by the rather lovable (if all too human and imperfect) characters until, half way through, the film explodes with moments of real beauty, passion and tenderness. The cinematography deftly weaves flashbacks and fleeting glances from within the minds of the main characters, their memories merging seamlessly for a few moments with the real life around them. The script contains gems that you want to remember. Italian star Giovanna Mezzogiorno is superb as the wife who seems to be locked in a constant struggle with her husband and attracted to the man in the apartment facing theirs. But Facing Window proves to be far more than melodrama triangle: echoes of the Nazi holocaust and the inner strength to realize one’s true feelings, as well as one’...

Ordinary logic tells us that if you’ve supported a band’s career by buying their albums, there’s no real reason to fork out two tenners for their greatest-hits package. At its heart, that’s essentially what Singles 93-03 is, but the Chemical Brothers were never ordinary so you can expect a few bonuses for your buck. For the 10-year anniversary disc, they’ve packed in some of their greatest and most beloved hits: debut single “Song to the Siren,” the Noel “Oasis” Gallagher-fronted “Setting Sun,” the forever-familiar bass line of “Block Rockin’ Beats” and the well-worn classic groove of “Hey Boy Hey Girl.” What distinguishes this comp from one you can compile and burn yourself are two new tracks, which the band has said signify a “new phase” in their career: the beautiful and psychedelically spacey “The Golden Path” (featuring the Flaming Lips) and the rough-and-ready “Get Yourself High” (featuring Canadian rapper K-Os).
Gogol Bordello are a completely original New York entitity. Rubric is reissuing their debut release, Voi-La Intruder, with the track order revised and an additional 5 tracks. This is Ukranian party music. Leader Eugene Hutz is a major NYC DJ at the Bulgarian Bar on Saturday nights. The place is packed weekly with Eastern European immigrants and the hipsters who love them. The music is best described as a sort of Pogues meets traditional Ukranian folk music in a sweaty dance bar. One foot in punk rock and one foot in traditionalism, Gogol Bordello have been packing clubs in NYC and have recently toured the Czech Republic and Switzerland. They’ve also shared the Central Park stage last summer with international sensations Manu Chao. This is sexy, uplifting party music that gives one hope for the future.

TMBG has always been a great reason for math and computer science majors to add a real rock album to their collection of John Williams and Weird Al records—and Flood is a bacchanalian celebration of dorkiness. Lifting off from their previous album, Lincoln, which was a sort of transitional hit-or-miss, Flood is a soaring, catchy sing-along album destined for people who love quoting Monty Python sketches. Try not singing the words to “Particle Man,” “Istanbul (Not Constantinople),” or “Birdhouse in your Soul.” (Apparently, “Particle Man” was so catchy that the song was later used as a sing-along in a cartoon show for children.) Combining a book-smart, funny love of history, junk culture, and film noir, this is the album to own. Put it on loud, sing along, and dance very, very badly. —Todd Levin

The duo was Denny Zager (18 February 1944, Wymore, Nebraska, USA; guitar/vocals) and Rick Evans (b. Lincoln, Nebraska, USA; guitar/vocals), who had met in 1962 and joined a band called the Eccentrics. Evans left that band in 1965 but teamed up with Zager again at the end of the decade. The former had written “In The Year 2525” five years earlier, and the newly reunited duo recorded the track in Texas in 1968. It was released on the local Truth label and picked up the following year by RCA Records, climbing to number 1, where it remained for six weeks in the US charts and three weeks in the UK, ultimately selling a reported five million copies.
Daft Punk - Around The World

After rocking the suburbs with the infectious and persistent “Da Funk” (with its amusingly pointless Spike Jonze video), Gallic pranksters Daft Punk unleashed Homework, an album that combined everything good about house music with everything bad about French pop and changed the face of dance music in the process. The sound of production duo Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem is a raw and dirty collage of cheap drum machines (wired for maximum swing) welded to endless filtered loops and embellished with everything from guitars to talk-box vocals. The beats are lifted straight from the Chicago House textbook, but the simple bass lines and catchy hooks make a listenable pop song from what would normally be a stripped-down DJ tool. Uncompromising yet totally accessible. —Matthew Corwine

Uncompromising yet totally accessible. —Matthew Corwine</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>After rocking the suburbs with the infectious and persistent “Da Funk” (with its amusingly pointless Spike Jonze video), Gallic pranksters Daft Punk unleashed Homework, an album that combined everything good about house music with everything bad about French pop and changed the face of dance music in the process.
Björk’s musical career began at the age of eleven, when she began studying classical piano in elementary school. One of her instructors submitted a recording of Björk singing Tina Charles’ song “I Love to Love” to RÚV, then the only radio station in Iceland. The recording was aired nationally; upon hearing it, a representative of the record label Fálkinn contacted Björk with a record contract offer. With the help of her stepfather, who played guitar, she recorded her eponymous debut in 1977. This album featured several Icelandic children’s songs, and covers of popular songs such as the Beatles’ “The Fool on the Hill”, sung in Icelandic. The album sold enough copies to go platinum in Iceland. Punk rock began to have an influence on Björk; at the age of fourteen, she formed the all-girl punk band Spit and Snot, shortly followed by a jazz fusion group called Exodus in 1979. After writing songs and rehearsing for two weeks, they (under the name KUKL which means “sorcery” in Icelandic) found they worked well together, and decided to continue, developing a sound that some have described as resembling Gothic rock. Björk began to show indications of what would become her trademark singing style, punctuated with howls and shrieks. KUKL toured Iceland with anarchist UK punk band Crass, and later visited the UK in a series of performances with Flux of Pink Indians. The band produced two albums as a result of these collaborations: The Eye in 1984, and Holidays in Europe in 1986, both on Crass Records. In the summer of 1986, several members of KUKL went on to form a band called Pukl but soon changed the name to The Sugarcubes.</itunes:subtitle>

Waters performed with the band on 2 July 2005 at the London Live 8 concert, playing to Pink Floyd’s biggest audience ever. On 3 February 2006, Gilmour gave an interview to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica which indicated the band would no longer tour or produce any new material,[3] although various members still plan on producing solo or collaborative material. The possibility of an appearance similar to Live 8 has not been ruled out by either Mason 4 or Gilmour.[5]</itunes:subtitle>

It took rap in an entirely new direction: while others were content to ride the “Double Dutch Bus” down to the disco, the Furious Five spoke out about social decay. The chorus of “The Message” (“Don’t push me, ‘cause I’m close to the edge / I’m trying not to lose my head / Sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under”) describes the effect of Reaganomics in ways that Dan Rather never could. Of course, Grandmaster Flash and company weren’t against partying. In fact, they cut some of the best party tracks in the genre’s history (“Freedom,” “The Birthday Party”), along with some battle raps (“Step Off,” “Showdown”) to complete the package. Copyright restrictions probably kept the beat-edit classic “The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel” off the track listing. Still, one glaring omission isn’t reason enough not to pick this up. —Todd Inoue</itunes:summary>

Thom Yorke - The Eraser

Some writers and fans have taken to calling this album Kid B, the (obvious) implication that it’s the companion piece to Radiohead’s masterpiece of electronic rock. And while The Eraser does compare favorably to that work, it’s no longer ahead of its time, just simply of its time. We can’t all be visionaries all the time, however, and it’s understandable that Yorke wants to play with his computer more than he gets to with his rock and roll band. Looped bubbly bloops, sleight drones, and curious bleeps complement Yorke’s distinctive vocals throughout. The album at times sounds like demo versions, as if they were an update of the way Pete Townshend used to do solo versions of all his songs for the Who. It’s tough not to expect the rest of the band to come in and “complete” a particular song. But once you get used to the fact that this isn’t going to happen, the album reveals itself as a delightful, occasionally brave work that’s as playful as it is melancholic. —Mike McGonigal

Talkie Walkie comes five years after their landmark Moon Safari and Parisian mood-enhancers Air are back doing what they do best. Famously shy of ever repeating themselves, JB Dunckel and Nicolas Godin have filled in the years with the poorly received follow-up, 10,000hz Legend (even they think it strange), and an eerily effective soundtrack to Sofia Coppola’s Virgin Suicides. Nice enough in their own niche way, but a far cry from what people actually wanted. Happily, Talkie Walkie reunites us with the Air that we love: two hopelessly indulgent romantics with an ear in the past and an eye on the future. It’s meltingly good stuff—a collection of cool, cosmic pop songs that dispense with notions of time and space, wallowing instead on a cloud of poignant psychedelia. With vocal duties this time taken by the boys themselves, and gorgeously fragile strings courtesy of Serge Gainsbourg collaborator, Michel Colombier, they get off to a good start. Perhaps the introduction of an outside producer, in this case Radiohead’s Nigel Godrich, has forced such beautifully measured focus? Whatever, touchy-feely epics such as the heavenly “Cherry Blossom Girl” sit well next to electronic masterpieces such as “Ran,” whose enveloping tracked vocals recall the 10cc classic “I’m Not in Love.”—Paul Tierney</itunes:subtitle>
