Astar feat Chizi, I am fascinated more and more by the new genre of music coming out of Kenya studios. Alot of people think that Tanzania music is taking over, I beg to differ .. I think Tanzania is still caught up on pushing Bongo Flava which is not building real musicians from the craft… Kenya on the other hand there is a movement of musicians changing how we listen and how we will enjoy what I call “the music of the future” Enjoy this joint.. Astar kills it.. his rhymes are off the chains.. And to think that this is a GOSPEL song.

This track is pretty Old, its off the Ngoma Process produced by Bruice Odhiambo one of my good friends. But I think through out Bruices career, although he can argue different this was one of his best tracks… (this was his first attempt at what they wanted to called Urban Kenyan Soul or Music..) One thing you gotta appreciate about Bruice is that all instruments are RAW – assembled.. none of that fruity loops, and software rendered instruments… as for MERCY… Please bring back this OLD MERCY BACK…

This track can be defined as Kapuka, since its a classic Ogopa track (I call it Zouk) anyway we struggle everyday to classify sounds and soul. Either way its the one track that women in Kenya jump to the dance floor for. Kangethe – sorry, Nameless really brought it home on this track, as much as the Kiswahili is Mbofff.. how can you sinzia when you think about someone???? Its like saying I sleep when I think about you. Nasinzia nikikuwaza. But the blend between Sheng and Swahili and English is what makes it a brilliant track. Just dont use Proper kiswahili – and call it Sheng. ati Nasinzia nikikuwaza. Then you are bored of that chile.. Enjoy the track…

Just dont use Proper kiswahili – and call it Sheng. ati Nasinzia nikikuwaza. Then you are bored of that chile.. Enjoy the track…</itunes:summary>

I am proud to say I was part of this project also, while it lasted… One year later his album came out and people got to sing and dance to a process that may have started almost 2 years prior to that release date. Dealing with East African ARTISTS is worse than dealing with US artists. At least US artists think they know what they want, East African artists have no idea what they want, and thats what happened with TID and my team at the time. However not withstanding a lot of good work was produced such as this first ever East African BALLAD – Produced by TED JOSIAH for Blu Zebra productions, Wyre coincidentally for anyone wondering is a very good producer too. Kama Ndoto Kweli (Just like a dream) – is a classic if you can keep up with the words, listen carefully.

Stella and Kantai, probably one of the best Kenyan collaborations, this track doesnt need to be on this list of Kenyan Urban Soul, however I plugged it in, because I think STL is sexy and Kantai is hot… Kantai is probably one of the only few artists who can give BAMBOO a run for his money. He goes both ways, english and slang. he is bad news… STL or Stella, is just one really…. Well let me just say Kenya will never get another iller MC like her.. PERIOD. I wish she talked Swahili though – she lived in Sweden or Switzerland most of her life so swa is a rumor.

I am proud to say I was part of this project while it lasted, quite unfortunate how these massive, well crafted projects end up back into the shelves. I would really like to get into why Didge’s album was slept on and never released as it should have, but I will not. All I can say is TED JOSIAH, DIDGE both worked very hard to accomplish what I call the NEW WAVE of Afrousoul in Kenya – if anyone ever gets a copy of this album you will know what I am saying. TIMELESS, six years from today we will still be singing saa zingine. TIMELESS. Mad respect… this was my jam..

Shu, better known as Mwashuma Nyatta! hails from the heart of Taita hills in Kenya. Unbelievable, if you actually listened to the track before you read this I know you are going to back track the song and try to look for Kenyanisms’ Shu is probably going to be THE most successful Kenyan R&B act in the history of Urban Kenyan Music. Not because he is a friend of mine, but because I think as an entertainer he defined his path way earlier to compete with the Western Market. I love and respect your work, my favorite track is AMOR of his previous album, however his new album there is a track called BEAUTIFUL. wai wai wai wai

I cant continue to talk about SEMA as if I was their manager or their folk. I was just the saddest guy for weeks when they decided to call it quits. I loved them like they were my own, I can almost feel homeboyz pain when we sit back and look at that project because truth be told the kidz were talented, cute and just enthusiastic… maybe a little too enthusiastic. This track was their single off their Album, its a little old but it still inspires me to just believe that SEMA was the shit… Produced by Musyoka for HOMEBOYZ at the time it is or was just tight, speaking of which wacha I upload their first NEO SOUL track done in english.. FULL..

Nikki Soulstress, and probably the only R&B diva still holding fort in Kenya is coming up with a new Album sometime this year. This song needs to grow onto me but I my honest opinion off the bat is that sija ifeel sana. She has another song off the album called ” HII NGOMA” that song is sick, I will probably upload that sometime this week, although its been on the market for a while. Either way enjoy the track.

Sometimes I listen to this song and I ask myself whether for real, this is Harry Kimani or this is some other guy trying to mimic him. I also have major conflicts with trying to figure out if he is the actual person who wrote the song… But the reality is simply this – HARRY this track is awesome, whether you wrote it or didnt, the delivery is the best I have heard so far. Better than anything you had on your first album, the strings, the harmonies, the Vocals, the words … .Excellent, we need more material like this coming out of Kenya. I salute THEE

Missing My Baby - Amani

One day I was hosting the Chaguo la Teeniez awards and Amani was about to take the Stage, she moved out to the corner of the stage (backstage) and gathered her crew to pray. Seconds later she came up to me and was like how is it out there, how are things… Was she actually nervous about performing???? The reality is yes, the lady was second guessing herself. To me that was like wow, damn first she is praying which means she is actually taking every single step she is about to do on that stage so seriously, unlike other local artists. And second, was the fact that as much as she is good, she still doesn’t believe in herself as much and wants to prove it to herself. it was an awesome moment for me,to see her rip the stage next to her. This song is her latest release, ” missing my baby” I think its a good joint, well prepared and lyrics are okay… Amani you will go places if you stick to making GOOD Music.

<itunes:subtitle>One day I was hosting the Chaguo la Teeniez awards and Amani was about to take the Stage, she moved out to the corner of the stage (backstage) and gathered her crew to pray.
Karibia - Nameless featuring Kidum

Honestly I didn’t really want to put this song up here, because it doesn’t really feel or sound like an Afrosoul song, however I think for me this is probably one of NAMELESS’s best work by far. I to feel him stretch his voice fully was one of those experiences I was like wow, nameless actually can sing. Personally I like Nameless because of his lyrics, I think they are just straight forward – Kama Bogi Benda, how many artists do you know who can take you that back. Now the other part of this song is that it was produced by GIDO Kibukosya – just in case anyone doubted his production skills I think this song kinda shuts up all who thought GIDO or Suzzane had lost their Mojo…

Happy - Carol Atemi

When I initially went back to Kenya, I heard this song one day and I fell in love (well not with the singer but with the song) It was the first Neo Soul/Afro Soul Blend I had heard since being back. So when I actually realized that the singer was a friend I knew while growing up and going to School in South B. It made me more proud to be able to upload her track on my Podcast. This was the first and last song that came from her, she has since then been caught up with doing gigs and maintain other things… I think she is also part of a group of women called the NDIVAS (these chics are bad news, included the likes of Mercy Myra, Achieng Abira and the likes..) Either way Enjoy HAPPY – Its all totally Kenyan.. ALL …. “That Smile, your eyes … I dont think you know that you make me feel soo soo.. Mpezi weeee… you make me so happy..”

Mziki - KAZ

KAZ better known as KAREN LUCAS, may be currently working as an Account Executive at Red Sky (some advertising Agency) but prior to that she was one of the Project Fame Stars which was a show dubbed out of South Africa and highlighted different artists who represented their countries vocally. Kaz was one of the few to last the season with Didge by her side. Surprisingly I used to watch KAZ sing at Intercontinental and I often said, the damn chic was and is talented. I don’t know what happened or if there is anything we can expect from her, but DAMN it I still LOVE this MZIKI to date… Enjoy Mziki.. “leteni Mziki” “Nina imba sababu jua lime waka kwa furaha (am singing because the sun is out and I am filled with Joy)” Swa is broken but track is sick… the production was also pretty tight… big ups

Dhahabu - PAM

PAM formerly of SEMA the sensation R&B group that Homeboyz helped put out after the whole Coca Cola Popstars show is one of the few singers I fully respect. Recently over April Fools they published an article of PAM, SANAA and some other chic hooking up to form the GOLDEN GIRLS. They had me fooled I was excited. This song which is PAM by herself produced by TIM (Innovator) demonstrates PAMs prowness and agility to dominate the African R&B scene. Truth be told TIM the producer KILLED it on this track. “The little things you do ni kama Dhahabu (Gold) ya ni changamsha na furaha ya ajabu”
