Justin Palmer in many ways felt like the brother I never had even though I will claim to have other JavaScript mafia brothers as well. Aside from that matter, the “Experience Engineer” from Encytemedia (and Prototype enthusiast) and I spoke about the various forms of Events that all encompass JavaScript. And indeed; we came, we saw, and we conquered. Notables from this episode The upcoming event of South By South West is approaching, and it’s best if you reserve your ticket early (so you can save money). Mutation events which allow you to listen for changes to the DOM. “HTMLEvents” that can be simulated by document.createEvent('HTMLEvents'); CustomEvents which can be developed using the Decorator pattern or use the Y!’s custom event utility. Download this Episode This podcast is 39 minutes. Download Episode 15: WSwI Podcast: Venni Viddi Vicci of Events with Justin Palmer

Last epsidode I spoke with Yahoo!’s Matt Sweeny, primary responsible for two YUI utilities, however in this episode I spoke just a bit on some of the benefits of other libraries and how they can be useful for you. In particular I picked apart some of the entries from the jQuery Event Selector showdown and speaked a bit on the shortcomings and benefits of each. Nonetheless, the driving factor for any library is that it is beneficial for you and that you can get things done with it. Since I obviously hold close ties to YUI I wanted to make it clear of what it does and doesn’t do. Other than YUI (which I barely even talked about), I touched a bit on Sam’s Prototype, John’s jQuery, and Justin’s Event Selectors. Others I mentioned but didn’t go into detail (mainly because I don’t know them as well) was MochiKit and Alex’s Dojo Toolkit.

In this episode you will get perhaps the best introduction to the YUI libraries by one of the developers himself. Joining me in this podcast is Yahoo!’s very own Matt Sweeney who is most largely responsible for the DOM Collection Utility and the Animation Utility, both of which are very sexy components that will give you a taste of the quality of what the others have to offer. In the News Eric Meyer is Flummoxed by Frameworks and we discussed the topic a bit further. Also Kevin Hale shared some of his thoughts on how to wireframe Ajax which ultimately lead us to discussing how cool Bill Scott is being both a U.E.D. with a code background. Needless to say, we like Bill. Noteables from this episode An Answers.com reference to what Flummoxed really means We also got into detail as to what a Custom Event is - hopefully giving Adam Moore the justice he deserves for writing this into the Event Utility. Download this Episode This podcast is 52 minutes. Download Episode 12: WSwI Podca...

Now with better audio equipment, in this episode I paid a revisit to my Top Ten JavaScript Functions of all time entry from November of 2005 and did a complete analysis explaining the pros and cons of each function and what could be improved, and if, perhaps, there are better functions today as an alternative. Regardless, the functions were good for their time, but with JavaScript at the forefront of development, new ones are being reborn every day and are simply replacing the old. In the News Nothing really that special. Basically I’m going to London for the @media 2006 conference so I hope to see you there. And the other piece of news I discussed is the recent release of the latest YUI JavaScript frameworks, which by the way, now includes a CSS framework that allows you to create over 100 different page layouts with just one 1.8k css file.
For a lack of a better title, in this episode Drew McLellan and I had the chance to discuss the evolving technology of microformats along with quite a few of his other sites like Dreamweaver Fever and 24ways. Other than that, we discussed some of the latest news going on around the web such as Dan’s DOM Builder and William’s Firefox extension guide, and of course played another classic game of Pryamid 2.0 where I failed miserably (again).
Indiana Jones, Mashups, naked day, oh yea, Jeremy Keith and I talked about it all. And did you know he has a food blog? Nevermind the matter, this is a podcast you won’t want to miss and pass up the chance to listen to a published author and Task Force super hero. In this Episode We go into the typical news stuff such as the Gawker Stalker mashup. In particular George Clooney says he’s going to do something about… but I wouldn’t take that too seriously. Also in the news we talked about a Del.icio.us function list which allows you to see pretty much anything and everything that’s ever been done with their A.P.I.. And last but not least, everyone should know by now that today is naked day so don’t be shy to jump right on in with the rest of the world. JavaScript Stuff Of course this wouldn’t be right if we didn’t talk about JavaScript. We did in fact talk a bit about leaky scripts, window popping, and of course, the ever popular Hijax method of developing Rich Internet Applications. A good demo of Hijax in practice would be Jeremy’s Elsewhere subsite. Download this Episode This podcast is 59 minutes.
Perhaps the most entertaining podcast to date, I decided to do a solo-cast seeing as how my guests were not around and I’d like to keep these coming out to you as consistent as possible. For those of you looking for just a good ‘ol laugh and some good story telling, this episode is for you. In this episode I talked about my experience and run in with Jeffrey like the little school girl that I am. You’ll also hear a bit on what went down with Cameron as well as a recent purchase I’ve made from the Apple Store. Download this Episode This podcast is 24 minutes.
