Martyr Freestyle

In preparation of my first CD I recorded a freestyle today that I entitled Understand. I figured I should go ahead and put it up on the site since I have not put anything out for a little while. This summer I do plan on releasing my first CD titles Martyr Monday, which will have mostly my own material but a few cameos here and there. Trouble Dragon the side project of Skizzard and I will also have a song or two on it. Nevertheless this is the first thing I have been able to record due to different difficulties in a long ass time so please give it a listen and enjoy. I will also be updating the website with another Sega Genocide review, along with something secret that I have decided to review for next week as well. Brett Martyr-Understand (Freestyle)

I just recently completed Shadow of the Colossus, and I have to say, one of the worst demos I’ve ever played, one of the most epic games I’ve ever played. To give you an idea of how bad this demo was… I completed it, 3 times, trying desperately to like it (Huge fan of Ico here), but couldn’t get into it… luckily, my buddy Kristi had the full game and had me try it out. Amazing. Far from the best game I’ve played, but definitely one of the most immerse and epic. Here’s the key: The soundtrack! Here’s tune from one of the fights with the colossi. Epic, loud, orchestrated, you can’t do much better than this for boss music. Try the game if you haven’t already! Its pretty damn good! Sony Computer Entertainment - Shadow of the Colossus - The Opened Way ~ Battle With the Colossus

Its that time of the week again, and this time, I bring you a song from the Streets of Rage Remake. In case you haven’t heard of us talk about it on the podcast, this is a completely redone version of Streets of Rage, and by far, my favorite version. Bomber Games did something completely ludicrous, and they aren’t even done with the project yet. Currently in the works are online play, standard bugfixes, cheats, and a ’store’ where you can buy game cutscenes. I can’t stress enough how much I love this game. Enjoy the game, enjoy the soundtrack. This is a HUGE entry for Battletunes. Bomber Games - Streets of Rage Remake - Bar Hopping (3Mb) Microsoft Windows - Streets of Rage Remake v401b (70Mb) Bomber Games - Streets of Rage Remake OST (174Mb) Again… I can’t stress how much I love this team. First off, this is a TON of work, second off, giving this away for free. Do your childhood memories some justice, grab this awesome game. http://www.bombe...

Tunes 2 Pwn Face 2: Dr. Steel (and The Wikipedia Cover-Up!!)

Hey…. there. I come to you with a message, a message of peace, fun and imagination in the Utopian Playland of the future. A vision belonging to the man who will inevitably take throne as your ruler. I’m talking about the one and only, Dr. Phineas Waldolf Steel. A toy-making, robot constructing, mad scientist whose melodic transmissions caught my eye whilst crusin’ the intrenets… and the mespaces… Dr. Steel has three albums [“Dr. Steel”, “Dr. Steel II: Eclectic Boogaloo” and “People of Earth”] as well as the “Dr. Steel Collection,” which includes remixes and a cover of “Inspector Gadget”! Surgically splicing Hip Hop, Progressive and Industrial in a most intriguing fashion. I’m not a big fan of tossing out genre titles, thus I dub it: “Factotronocular Transmissions” Chronological order is the way to go, logically. The first track of “Dr. Steel”… which is “Dr. Steel,” opens the saga of the Dr. Steel ride. You’ll be pulled into a land of mechanical soul: Toyland....

The first track of “Dr. Steel”… which is “Dr. Steel,” opens the saga of the Dr. Steel ride. You’ll be pulled into a land of mechanical soul: Toyland. It’s a solid representation of what you’re in for, a madman on the loose in your speakers. If you’re not into crazy music, you might want to turn back now. For those who appreciate the acquired taste of well put together tunes that make you teeter on that border are in for a fuckin’ TREAT. Now you’re in Steel’s world, where you can enjoy the audible smog from robot workers which, coincidentally, also make up the members of the band… when they’re working properly. While repairs are being done he’s got a human band, so you’re still gonna get the Steel Experience with the aid of loyal nurses and PUPPETS! That’s right, no need to go back and read it ‘cause I’m about to repeat it! At Dr. Steel shows, you get the Mad Scientest himself, you get a sick band, HOT NURSES, and A PUPPET SHOW PERFORMING THE STORIES OF THE SONGS. I’m trying to think of something about the idea that isn’t badass… I have nothing to report… I could stress the importance of why chrono-lodge is the best way to listen to the albums, but that would be like explaining why movies, comics, anime, shows with an in-depth and thoughtful circumstancial order need to be seen from the beginning. A lot happens and you could miss plenty, which means you might not get quite the same impact as someone who know’s what’s going on. It’s like a Sci-Fi movie happening in your brain. Going play-by-play on this one might spoil the potential fun for you. This is music that is better listened to actively, not passively. If you’ve got the mental capacity to take in a story, you’re set. I was able to get the Doctor to answer a few questions, by which I mean 11… [SkizZ] How’s the weather in Toyland? (Dr. Steel) I’m uncertain. With my laboratory being underground I tend not to experience a great deal of weather directly. Though, the last time I checked security cam #5, I spied a few chemtrails smeared across the sky. I’ll be staying inside today. [SkizZ] Your toys look a little on the unsafe side… So just how much fun is promised with a World Domination Toy? (Dr. Steel) Oh, no. All World Domination Toys products are completely safe unless misused. Each product is designed specifically for maximum fun! I look forward to seeing many of these creations made available far and wide in the future. [SkizZ] What made you think of using puppets at your live shows? (Dr. Steel) Well, I’ve found that most rock shows are truly lacking in the puppet show department. To this end I’ve decided to remedy that particular problem. I look forward to expanding such performances to include an ever greater collection of unusual visual stimuli as my resources expand. [SkizZ] How many loyal followers do you have? (Dr. Steel) Oh goodness, that’s nearly an impossible question to answer. As if I were to provide you with a quote, such numbers would inevitably be inaccurate once this interview is printed as new Toy Soldiers enlist daily. Likewise, the only verified enthusiasts I can pinpoint are those who have taken the time to fill out the Toy Soldier application form. These enthusiastic visionaries are truly appreciated indeed, but they are the exception to the average fan of my work. Especially in a day and age where most people are reluctant to provide their personal details. Looking at my world domination map, I see pinpoints bursting from every corner of the United States and Britain, then expanding rapidly throughout Australia. Recently, the Spanish Division was established with Soldiers in that region translating my manifesto into their native language. It’s brilliant to see such ever increasing support, and with the exponential growth through the sincere passion of The Toy Soldiers I look forward to seeing other corners of the globe gravitate towards the movement as well. [SkizZ] What is Wikipedia’s problem with your work? And how do you feel about their refusal to include a page for you, despite your vast array of media? (Dr. Steel) I can only assume that Wikipedia is but a small arm of the Alien Illuminati, who continually aim to engineer reality. That I am exposing such truths and encouraging the creative powers of the masses is clearly something they have been fighting to oppress for a very long time. I see this not as a punishment but as an affirmation that I am indeed on the right track. Either that, or they just think I’m silly. [SkizZ] The nurses are a nice touch… I don’t really have a question for that one. (Dr. Steel) Understood. [SkizZ] Your thoughts on 2012? (Dr. Steel) An intriguing enigma indeed, and one with a great many theories. As for me, I look forward to the potential alteration of humanity’s paradigm as a whole. May whatever events that take place in the coming years present doorways of possibilities and potential. [SkizZ] At what point did you wave bye-bye to your sanity? (Dr. Steel) Like many of us I found myself working a nine to five job, living my life in a small office for a bi-weekly paycheck and the satisfaction of knowing that I was “safe”. Though such a position was certainly expected and often desired by the majority of the world, it left me feeling unsatisfied and frustrated with the lack of personal, creative satisfaction. To this end I one day found myself at a crossroads. I was presented with a choice to continue this way of life or to forge a new one. With a healthy dose of insanity I chose the latter and decided to throw caution to the wind so that I might pave my own way. I have since reinvented myself and spend my every day marching towards the completion of my vision. To live in a state of creativity and self reliance while forever peering beyond the veil of assumed reality is my continued desire. [SkizZ] Besides music, making toys, experiments and planning global domination, what hobbies do you have? (Dr. Steel) My life is designed to create in any way that I can. To manifest ideas is the only thing I am interested in doing. All that I do is intended to achieve such goals. I look forward to circumventing eat, sleep and defecation as the technology is developed to do so. [SkizZ] What message do you want to give to those who may not know of your genius? (Dr. Steel) Identify your sincere, creative passions and do all that you can to realize them. [SkizZ] What can we look forward to in the future? (Dr. Steel) Infinite possibilities, my friend. Infinite possibilities. .and giant robots. There you have it! From the man himself, words of inspiration and realization. Many an artist, and people in general, could learn a thing or three from Dr. Steel. Mainly how to own face! He covers a variety of topics, ranging from the “Fibonacci Sequence” to Godzilla [“Atomic Superstar”] to Conspiracies [“Conspiracy”] to a “Bikinigram from Satan.” http://www.toysoldiersunite.com/files/uploads/drsteelmusicsampler.mp3 There is something truly unique about the idea(s) of Dr. Steel, primarily the motif of the mad scientist. One of those ideas so great it produces a “why the FUCK didn’t I think of that?” moment. Guess I’m not that brilliant, I’ll stick with the Wizardry. If you like what you hear from Dr. Steel and want to swear your undying allegiance, you can hop on over to http://www.toysoldiersunite.com where you can choose which department best suits you. TSU.com has a lot to offer in the ways of Steelery, so check it out. If there was ever a mastermind of music to side with, Dr. Phineas Waldolf Steel is that mastermind. There is also a lot to see at http://worlddominationtoys.com/drsteel/enter.html When I say he has created his own world, you’ll see I am far from kidding. He also has his own Youtube channel, http://www.youtube.com/user/DoctorSteel where he releases PSAs and episodes of “The Dr. Steel Show”… which are filled to the brim of the beaker that is hilarity. And, of course, http://www.doctorsteel.com works too! Steel truly understands what it takes to get noticed in the time we live in. He’s got so many outlets, it’s really a wonder why more people haven’t heard of him. But that will change soon. As time progresses more and more people will recognize Steel’s abilities and charisma, then he will reign supreme. I’m quite confident of this. One thing attempting to hold him back is the Misinformation Powerhouse known as Wikipedia. He’s all over the internet, he’s even been on JAY LENO (don’t believe me? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qlq68GTjd_Y chiggity check it! I couldn’t find the whole thing, but he’s there!) and he doesn’t have a Wikipedia page. Not for a lack of trying, attempts have been made. But when those attempts took place they were REJECTED and REMOVED because he didn’t meet “notability standards”. Absurd!!! I can’t tell you how many shitty bands have a page on Wikipedia. I guess the line is drawn when the artist in question makes you THINK. Either that or they think it is one big, elaborate hoax. That’s a long way for someone to go for the sake of a goof! What the hell are you hiding, Wikipedia? I’d like to thank Dr. Steel for taking time out of his busy day of global domination to answer my questions. I’d also like to thank him for having the integrity to make something truly amazing with music. Instead of selling his soul to make something half-assed and lacking of heart and mind. So get out there and support this artist who truly deserves it. Buy his music, show your allegiance by becoming a Toy Soldier and bow down to Dr. Steel, bitch!</itunes:subtitle>

Steel, bitch!</itunes:summary>

Ok, this is one of my favorite Zelda song’s of all time. Its catchy, melodic, and salsa. Yes. Salsa. Its a wonderful example of a stereotypical desert theme and a completely batshit crazy example of a Zelda song. Its so god-damned different from the rest of the music in the entire series that it absolutely deserved a plug. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Gerudo Valley

I wrote a review for The World Ends With You a while back, and as you know, I loved it. One of my favorite parts about this game is how the music quickly goes from grating, offensive, and against the norm, to catchy, fun, and empowering. Here’s Shibuya, one of the most common tracks in the game. Enjoy! This particular track has an almost Jet Set Radio feel to it. Very scratchy, very awesome.
I realized this has been up for awhile now and I haven’t made any sort of introduction. Here goes: I, as well as being an avid gamer, I do all sorts of things like play guitar, sing and rap. This is an experiment in said department. “Wizard Island: Transmission” is a 31 minute-ish album that tells a story. An introduction to the next part of the tale, “Wizard Island: Location,” which will be slobber knocker! This album is, again, an experiment in my rapping and beat making capabilities. I’ve learned a lot from making this album (which a lot of you might be able to tell from how the first half sounds in comparison to the second) and “Location” will be better in ways I can’t even explain. I’m taking a lot of time on it because now that I’ve begun there’s no reason for rookie mistakes. I’m taking a lot of time on it because now that I’ve begun there’s no reason for rookie mistakes. Until that point, please enjoy “Wizard Island: Transmission.” Which can be found on THIS site. FOR FREE! No reason not to check it out. I’ll even put the link right here in case you’re feeling lazy! http://seventytwopinconnector.com/wizard-island-transmission/ -Scott [aka SkizZ teh WizZ] www.youtube.com/skizztehwizz Posted in Uncategorized </itunes:summary>

Let’s face it kids, January has had some slim pickings to feed your hunger for video games. But the Crew 72 is still there for you. We’re going to make sure that you guys know what’s worth seeing from the first month of the brand new year…even if that stuff is a little less conventional than your standard issue game. Chad: The Maw - Quirky, funny, pretty, and just ten dollars, this looks like a good deal. However, the short gameplay and surprisingly large repetition easily explains the price. The Maw is an action adventure game out on the Xbox Live Arcade. While it has a few annoying flaws, none of them really stand in the way of it being a halfway decent game. It even feeds a certain overpowering thirst for destruction, what with the riding atop a hideous monster that shoots lasers at everything around it while glorious victory music plays in the background. But, normally this wouldn’t be the kind of game I’d suggest people go out and buy…if it were si...

But, normally this wouldn’t be the kind of game I’d suggest people go out and buy…if it were sixty bucks. And it ain’t sixty bucks, it’s ten, and it was probably one of the best games to come out of January. So give The Maw some careful consideration next time you decide to waste your money. Tom: FEAR 2: Project Origin: DEMO - The original FEAR was one of my favorite games for a good long while. I originally played it on PC and it scared the shit outta me… Yea.. the game had faults, the slow-mo was hokey and done before, the game engine wasn’t very well optimized and ran like shit at times, but overall, it was an amazingly immersive experience. I’ve been excited for Project Origin for a while now, and not only because it is the next game in the series. FEAR has always been incredibly immersive and FEAR 2 looks to do the same. The demo is nothing short of a psychological mind-fuck as you wander the dark halls, jumping at every little noise, but this is just like the first.. What really makes FEAR 2 special is that they’ve listened to fans of the series and improved on the formula substantially. Again.. its just a demo, not the final project… and I still have the same apprehensions about this game that I did when the first FEAR demo came out. Yes: The demo is terrifying, but can it keep the tension and atmosphere through the length of the entire game? We’ll have to see. This sounds strangly familiar… I did a writeup on the first FEAR game forever ago when writing for Fragility Productions (Now defunct), and the apprehension still stands. They’ve pleasantly surprised me before, but can they do it again?
MK VS. DC [pt. II]

I finally got the chance to play this on the 360 a few weeks ago and just NOW remembered to do a report on it. I’m happy to say I come [in]to you with good news! This game is so much fun just remembering it makes me sad because I’m not currently playing it. The lame Fatalities and “Heroic” Brutalities don’t hurt this game even a little. In the sense that Mortal Kombat gained its fame from Fatalities, it would hurt if it were strictly an MK game. But this is MK vs. DC, the ultimate in comic “what ifs.” The juggling has become so smooth you’d swear you were born with the ability to punch somebody in the head while you’re in the air and make them bounce on the ground. And there’s enough blood to quench the thirsty, just enough to make every punch satisfying. In a way, there are quasi-mini games within the match. And there’s enough blood to quench the thirsty, just enough to make every punch satisfying. In a way, there are quasi-mini games within the match. One grab sets of a duel of sorts involving button hits. The one grabbed has to basically guess what button the other person is going to press in order to escape getting clobbered in a gauntlet of pride-obliterating bitch slaps (or POBS for the more informed). When thrown into certain breakable chunks of the arena, you’re plunged into a similar battle. One involves falling and playing the guessing game, another brings back the classic “Test Your Might” barrage of button mashing while driving your opponent (or having your opponent drive you) through a building. I’ll take this time to talk about some characters that stood out for me. 1) Scorpion That specter you remember so fondly is back with a particularly badass getup. The mask is especially badass but, hey, not here to talk about fashion. He’s got all the classic moves and a couple new ones. A solid choice for a getting to know the gameplay. 2) BiggityBatman The Dark Knight has all sorts of fun gadgets and crazy moves that will make beating your opponent to bits easier than your sister after a Long Island Iced Tea. Even though she says she isn’t like that despite the fact that she’s already in my room and fellating me. … 3) Sub (Ground) Zero (911) Another key character brought back to ensure kickassery. Pretty standard as far as moves go, but one move is so amazing it had to be mentioned. Remember the move where Sub would create an ice clone of himself? Then if you touched it you would freeze? A new take on that oldie: he freezes himself. If you hit him, you would freeze and he would emerge from behind you and hit you with his ice sword. It happens so quickly by the time you realize what happened to you there are already chunks of ice all over the place. Word. 4) The Green Lantern Anyone who knows me knows I’m a major Green Lantern fan. My first tattoo was the GL logo and to me he is the most original idea for a super hero ever. I think Keith agrees with me on this one. So I wasn’t even a little surprised when he turned out to be the SHIT in battle. Three words: Justice Fist, bitch! 5) The Joker Though number 5 on this list, he’s my number one. The Joker takes the taco in this game. From the Magic trick to the Pistol Whip to the Extending Boxing glove, who knew The Joker was that awesome at hand to hand combat? Whoops, Kombat. That’s about it on that front. MK vs. DC is a fun fun game and if you have the chance do not hesitate. Hopefully there will be more games of this caliber. I could play this god damned game all day… if I had it. Cheers!
Thanks to Kotaku for the box art! Wow… opinions were quite varied on this game.. And while I’ve been told that I’m the only one in the entire free world that could have a shred of doubt when it comes to this huge release, I’m gonna have to stick to my guns. So here you have it, both Keith Stidham, and I, Tom Webster duke it out over what RE5 is and could have been. Seriously people, blood is everywhere from the fist to cuffs! Tom: Resident Evil… when the first game came out, it revitalized and changed the way people looked at Survival Horror games, essentially breathing life into this gigantic genre that we all know and love. What Capcom did with this amazing game is recreate it. Not to say it wasn’t enjoyable, I liked RE2, I played through it, it was enjoyable. But it was basically an expansion pack for Resident Evil. Same graphics, animations, concept. This happens more often than not in this industry. Well, that game was remade and released countless times under various numbers and subtitles until that one glorious day: Resident Evil 4. At one time a true Gamecube exclusive, Capcom took up their sword to retrieve their fallen kingdom. They once again reigned as champions of a genre, truly recreating what “Survival Horror” meant to video games. Sadly enough, though, it seems this once righteous king has slipped back into his old ways. Capcom has once again capitalized on their huge success with Resident Evil 4 and we all should have seen it coming. I was worried when I first saw the trailers of RE5, noticing that Capcom chose to use the exact same animations that were in RE4 for this new game. I threw these worries away thinking, “Ok… its just a trailer, a tech demo, a teaser, they used the same content from 4 just to show off what they have been working on… they’ll change it by release.” Needless to say, I was completely wrong. Not only have they recycled animations, but they’ve recycled all of Resident Evil 4. I’m not saying this is a crime against humanity, I loved Resident Evil 4. I love Leon kicking ass and not bothering to take names, I liked the new creatures and how everything was very do or die, but when I see “Resident Evil 5″, I expect something different. Sure, take the same concept, the amazing balls-to-the-wall run and gun action, take the terrifying “Fast Zombies”, but do something different with it. Capcom has instead chosen to re-skin Leon and make an expansion pack that adds co-op. Now I love co-op as much as the next guy, and its quite a nice change to have a computer-controlled partner behave intelligently, but the game is just Resident Evil 4 with a makeover. I don’t mind the core gameplay being the same, I think they really hit on something good with 4, but I do have a problem with reusing the same animations, voice clips, and enemy AI as the previous game in the series. It seems lazy to me. If you’re going to call this game Resident Evil 5, it should be more than a cosmetic change, there should be something fundamentally better about RE5 than RE4. Capcom should give me a reason to buy this game other than “Umm.. its in Africa (among other place), looks, smells, plays, and feels like RE4.. and LOOK OVER HERE CO-OP!” With this demo, and that’s just what it is, a DEMO, Capcom has once again let me down. Granted: Its not a finished product. The current release date for this game is March 26, 2009. Other than basic bug testing, the game is done, they can’t change the game enough to differentiate itself from RE4 by that date. Unless Capcom pulls a Nintendo and pushes the release back another six months, don’t expect another Resident Evil game, expect an expansion pack, because that’s exactly what it is. Keith: While Tom sits in his “King’s Chair” and lectures everyone in the room about how they are all wrong and should bow to his high intellect, he lectures us at how this game should be night and day to it’s last incarnation, I am glad to see the familiar atmosphere that made 4 such a good game. As to his argument of it being nothing more than the same game, that is a bold face lie, and a crap ton of Tom bitching like a four year old who didn’t get a cookie. The game’s big development is that of the Co-op. Instead of the easily kidnapped, and horribly useless president’s daughter that Leon was stuck with the whole game, you now have a partner who not only attacks without your command, but will also heal, act as a partner for many of the famous puzzles RE is known for, and even help you escape the arms of a bite crazy zombie. As for now we can not for certain say how this game will turn out, no matter how much Tom swears by this. The story will end up playing a BIG part like it always does, and for now that story is still unclear. Who is Tri Cell, what is with the new version of the virus, how is it affecting people, and what happen to those infected by the other two versions of the virus…..we will just have to wait and see. And lets face it, a zombie is a zombie….they will always “act” the same way. I am not saying Resident Evil is a God-like game, nor am I saying they don’t play the same, but that is why people love it. The story of Resident Evil and the Umbrella Corp. is what keeps bringing people back, and if you hate the story, then just stop playing it all together. A game series doesn’t last this long without being a good game, people don’t become this obsessive about something that should have died out, and people wouldn’t pay $130 plus shipping just to get a game sent over from japan so they can get some simple accessories just to feel like they are a part of this game world. To say the least, Tom has pissed of the two people who were in the room with him with his trash talking of the DEMO and belittling of their intelligence, but please make the judgement for yourself, and play the demo, and remember, it is just that….a DEMO of the upcoming game. While there isn’t much time for them to change, it is not the full picture. Imagine judging Starry Starry night by just a few brush strokes, which is truly what basing you opinion of a game based on a demo truly is. I expect this game will end up being fantastic, but as to that we will just have to wait for the full game.
Super Mario World

What a wonderful staple of my childhood. The first time I ever had the chance to play SMW was at a Big Bear. Yeah, remember that grocery store chain that bit the dust years ago? They had a SNES in a little section for parents to drop their kids off when they drove them crazy (I fell fittingly into this category). Being a Sega child, I only had a couple friends who owned a Super Nintendo so I clung to that SNES at Big Bear. Kids wanting their turn got the silent treatment because there was no way I was letting go. Normally, I wasn’t that kid… but this was Super Fuckin’ Mario Fuckin’ World. Christmas united me with this classic thanks to the glory of the Virtual Console. I purchased this and Donkey Kong Country 2 (which Chad should probably review before I get to it first… duh duh DUUUUUUUH!). Where to begin… SMW was the pinnacle of the 2D Mario experience on the old school console. Yoshi came onto the scene, control over flight became amiable wit...

Where to begin… SMW was the pinnacle of the 2D Mario experience on the old school console. Yoshi came onto the scene, control over flight became amiable with the cape, not to mention you get to rehash the joy of decimating the Koopa Kids. Fuck those little bastards… literally, they’re bastards. Where’s the mother? Bowser would be a horrible father and an even worse single father. The only logical explanation is that Bowser got that Peach punanny on 8 occasions. What a whore. See, total whore. How do you think she can pull all of those turnips out of her dress? You guessed right, she’s got a gaping vagine… it looks like a pink hot tub… Getting sidetracked… SMW excelled at making cool looking environments Welcome to Dinosaur Island. Those numbers you see are the rubble of castles guarded by a Koopa Kid. Your mission is to save the stolen Yoshis from these castles. Technically, you can beat the game without doing all that but then you’d be a pussy. Either that or you’re going for a speed run, then I guess I can understand that… IF you beat the world record. For those who like a little spook every once in awhile in their adventure, there are also Ghost Houses along the way. Home of the Boo in varied forms: If you’ve never had to deal with a Boo, it’s quite simple. Just look at them and they quit moving. Either out of fear or shyness… the irony is palpable. Sometimes this tactic doesn’t work, hope you’re good at dodging. Super Mario World is a KEY game for any avid gamer. It’s a classic that I still hear talk of to this day. I have never heard an ill word said in regard to it and probably never will. I’d assume the only people who don’t have good things to say about it didn’t make it through. Which is sad because the boss battle with Bowser is one of the most entertaining battles I’ve been a part of. It’s just fun, and you get to crack Bowser on the head with Mechakoopas! How does that not spell out fun!? All of the boss battles are fun, not that I think about it. If you haven’t played it. If you have, play it again and smile constantly.
Boondog is a puzzle platformer, employing simple graphics, simple controls, and simple storyline. Which is to say, there is no story, and you will use a grand total of five buttons to figure out a continuous stream of unique, entertaining puzzles in a 2D landscape. Each level is small, but don’t let that fool you, the puzzles become progressively harder as you work your way from one teleporter to the next, trying to presumably escape “The Facility.” Boondog forces you to use your brain as you work through each level, pushing barrels, avoiding lasers, and hopping ledges. That will leave you constantly restarting the game or dying as you trap the barrels you’re trying to use, get incinerated, or fall to your death. And you will fall to your death…repeatedly. But that’s okay because the game provides little urgency. Forgiving you of your mistakes, it gives you infinite lives, saves, and the ability to restart a level when stumped. The Facility tries to give its player puzzles that are frustrating but simple and fun to do, and it does this successfully. While you may constantly fail, you will keep coming back because once you figured something out you’ll do it faster the next time. The puzzles are mind bending to enough of a degree and the levels are small enough that you will repeatedly get the satisfaction of puzzle-solving success. That will keep you well entertained. Boondog can be found right here, so give it a go.
Through the Cracks - The Fall

Welcome to the new year, a few weeks late, but with a new year comes a new movie review. I don’t think I will ever see a movie as good as this one ever again. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the Through the Cracks review of the beautiful cinematic experience known as “The Fall.” The Fall is a touching story about two people stuck in a hospital due to an injury they got from a fall. One a small immigrant girl named Alexandria who fell while picking oranges to help her family financially. The other is stunt man Lee Walker, played by Lee Pace from ABC’s Pushing Daisies (A tv show that if you have never seen I also highly suggest), who fell of a bridge from a very dangerous stunt. Lee is in a great deal of depression due to the fact he may never walk again, something that would kill his career. One Day Alexandria wonders into his room, and what appears to be a friendship. He begins to tell her a fantastic story. With adventure, mystery, revenge, and love....

As the story goes on longer and longer, the line between their real lives, and what Lee is creating in this story begin to blur, and Lee’s true intentions become clear. A beautiful movie, climatically, writing, acting, every element of this movie is just beautiful. It is one of my fav. movies, if not my all time fav. movie. I say go out and buy this movie, it is also out on blue ray, and with a high def. television it would make it a thousand times more beautiful visually. A perfect 10 from me! So please go out and support these under dog movies! Til next time, I will be falling through the cracks for you, seeing if it takes me somewhere entertaining!
Wow. This song is so damn hip. “Does She Love Me?” by the Stallionaires, is possibly the greatest achievement in music history. It’s like the artists, who totally wrote this song alone without any help from VH1, know exactly what people want to hear. Bullshit. The latest Nickelback single? Bullshit. The latest Hinder single? Bullshit. The latest Saving Abel single? REALLY bullshit. So here we are with more. Aren’t the talentless hacks that fill our pop culture great? Stallionaires 4 Lyfe- as they put it, except I misspelled it on purpose. Just look how hip and hot these lyrics are. “Does she love me? Or does she love me not? Oh wait, that’s what happened. Thank you Hila Seltzer for bringing this beautiful photograph to the world. Honestly, this song is filled with 80% hook. What do I mean by that? Well, they repeat that “Does she love me” at least 6 times, and fill most of the rest of the time with “Ah AAH Ah.” At about the 2:20 mark, the song changes into “Tell me what you’re gonna do. Everybody hey, everybody hey.” Over, and over, and over, and OH GOD IT’S RAPING MY EARS I CANT TAKE ANYMORE OF THIS! SHIT! SHIT! SHIT! FUCK! AHHHHHHWHEEHHHEFHEHWHHHHHH. (Gunshot) Oh wait. There are more songs. There’s a song called Street Life, which surprisingly ISN’T spelled Lyfe. They talk about being from the streets of New York, LA, and make numerous puns about how “REAL” that Real is. Creative. Their music is just like this review. No substance. No reason. Just shit. It’s the street life, the hustle and grind, the street life, I gotta get mine. And I’m also going to say Black Stallion nigga twenty times in the same song. Never before have I paid so little for a game (well… two) and received so much. I went onto the website, created an account, and then proceeded to buy the Fallout Bundle. This pack (for the ever so special price of $10) contained Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 with no DRM, and completely repacked to work just fine with XP/Vista computers. One of the huge problems with playing the older games is that most of the time, the computer you’re using to play the game is just too damn new, too damn different, or too damn fast to run the damn things correctly. Damn. GoG allows you to skip all the wonders of configuring, scraping around for old hardware, and scouring the internet for patches to get your oldy-time favorites to work with that shiny new box of yours, and it just works. You get a really simple, absolutely wonderful, double-click install to run, but the fun doesn’t stop there. Under the game download link, there’s a little section called “Additional Content” and is by far the best part of the site. The Fallout series makes the most of this section, more than other games they offer, but by no means are you being ripped of in any way. I have the option to download, for both Fallout 1 and Fallout 2: Game Manuals The Fallout Bible Quick Reference Cards Avatars PipBoy Avatars High-Resolution Wallpapers Fallout Series Wallpapers Concept Artwork and the Original Soundtracks Yea, for free. <itunes:summary>What’s the first thing you think of when I say “Download and Play”? Bad things I assume. Whether its the activation fiasco that occurred during the launch of Half-Life 2 or the horrible DRM associated with any Direct2Drive purchase, chances are, like me, you’ve given up on online purchases and stick to physical disks. Whether its DRM, the lack of service, the general disregard of support, or just not having a badass box to place atop your desk, most people have given up on digital downloads, and I don’t blame them. But then, out of fucking nowhere, I find GOG. No… not God… GOG. Good Old Games. Good Old Games is a website centered around the user experience. Free. Like no extra charge free. Like straight mp3’s. Like no DRM. Like all of this, the first two full Fallout games, and again: No DRM. So what are you waiting for? Its made for the Christmas Nerd in you. 8-Bit Jesus is a classic NES-style take on the Christmas carols of old, and by God do they rock! Hit his site up and give him a comment or two! Link to Doctor Octorok (And to the music) This link to the music pack in case his server is loaded! Again, total thanks to Doctor Octorok for this amazing set!
It is tough to find originality in music anymore. And I mean true originality. It happens that you’re looking in the right place. Magma is a French Progressive Rock Zheul band established in 1969 when Christian Vander, the genius behind the project, had a vision of music. He worked on this music and a language developed with it. Then he had a crazy idea that all the music he wrote would be in this language. Then he decided to turn it all into a weird space opera with existentialist ideals, and call the style of music Zheul, a word from his language. In summary, Christian Vander did a lot of LSD. Whether drugs were involved or not is not the case though. We care about the music. Kohntarkosz Anteria, or KA, as we will call it is not for anyone. The music sounds like music from another planet. Whether drugs were involved or not is not the case though. We care about the music. Kohntarkosz Anteria, or KA, as we will call it is not for anyone. The music sounds like music from another planet. Really. It isnt laced with generic space sounds or anything, but it sounds like another species made it. Mix church hymm music, progressive rock, blues, avant-garde, Gregorian chant, and jazz together. Most of the music is chanted repeatedly, possibly making Magma one of the underground influences on hip-hop, as this style of music originated before any rap. KA starts out with KA I, which is simply two or three different chants done over and over again for 11:12. While the repetition is overdone a little on this track, the drums are unbelievable, and the guitar is easily overlooked, but extremely well-thought out. You might feel the urge to skip ahead at parts, but I urge you back. This album is definitely too repetitive, but on first listen, it is worth listening to every little section to hear the changes. KA II begins with chanting, and that chanting will continuously change and repeat for the next 12 minutes. The track gets interesting at the 13 minute mark, and the last minute is an epic section that sets the tone for the grand-finale track, KA III. The next track, KA III, is similar in style to the other tracks, but still completely different, which I’m finding is what every Zhuel song is like. The vocals are beautiful, and more sung than chanted. KA III continuously builds up while throwing in some AMAZING drumming (Zach Hill, a drumming legend in my book, states Christian Vander as his favorite drummer of all time, and I can see why). While listening, remember to listen hard for everything going on. It is easy to get caught up in a chant and almost miss some insane guitar fill. At 5:30, the keyboard solo comes in. No, its not some four measure solo repeated a couple times like a normal song. You forgot this was Magma. The solo goes on until 8:30, without repeating any phrase. How these people remember this stuff live is beyond me. Crazy Frenchies… KA is a continuous track separated, as sections from part I and II are repeated in part III, but not over and over again like you would expect. The highlight of KA is the entire part III with the last 2 minutes of part II. (The last 6 minutes of III being the best 6 minutes on the album). I’d say the low point is part I, as it repeats only a couple sections. This CD is recommended to fans of the weird. It really was maybe one of the hardest albums to review for me, as I have nothing else in the genre to compare it to. Although I hear if you really get into Zheul, there are a whole slew of bands that tried to evolve the style besides Magma. Give this a listen, but I would understand if anyone didn’t like it. These guys are about as accessible as The Locust.
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time may stand as one of the best games for the Xbox console and a progressive step towards story telling in video games. Likable characters, interesting game mechanics, and fun platforming set it apart from many other games of the last generation. Coupling that with the overall concept, using Arabian myth as a guideline to tell a fantastic tale, and you have one of the best games I’ve had the pleasure of playing. The new Prince of Persia deviates from the Sands of Time Trilogy and chooses to start a different story with a different approach. While still using Arabian myth as a drawing board, this Prince of Persia chooses to follow a different prince (who isn’t actually a prince at all…he’s a grave robber…an interesting decision…). The characters are still pretty likable and the platforming still manages to be fun, but the game lacks a degree of frustration and challenge that previous installments had. Unlike Sands of Time, which all...

The Prince of Persia is not a step in the wrong direction for the series though. It’s just imperfect like all the others. The game is still fun play, the scenery is incredibly beautiful, and the set up of each area is well put together, although a little too linear. The game gives you multiple paths to follow (a la Saints Row) and you can complete them in any order, but it still comes off feeling a bit too guided. I bought Prince of Persia last Wednesday and finished it Friday. It’s a game with very little replay value, but worth playing. With all the flaws it’s still a good game. Good advice is that you’ll want to RENT IT instead of buying or wait for the price to drop. This is not the best of the series and thankfully not the worst. It is a little more forgettable than previous installments and open-ended enough for a sequel, which will hopefully correct some of the problems to create an fantastic sequel. With any criticism I may have for it aside, the game is still fun and worth playing.
While I just reviewed (more like fanboied) Leviathan recently, another CD with a nautical theme, I tend to love the mystery of the sea, and the music that artists create pertaining to it. Enter, Phantom on the Horizon. If you’re a fan of the Fall of Troy, you’ve probably heard their Ghostship demos, and those demos might be a big reason that you enjoy them so much. Well, that’s right, they FINALLY finished the album. They’ve been working on these songs for five years, polishing and nurturing them. You might think they look like just another band, but this three piece is different. They’ve put together a concept album that would make Rush proud. Instead of reviewing songs like I want to, I’m going to cover different points of the album. You’re a indiefuck scene asshole that only likes “post-punk” and “scene metal” so you like Underoath and their “screams”? Are they xxxhxcxxx? Do you like it in your butt? The Fall of Troy is known for screaming a good bit in their songs, but the way they handle it on POTH is different. Thom and Frank sing and throw the occasional screech of death. Franks vocals work well with Thoms. (Frank used to be a lead singer/guitarist for Of Stalwart Fads I think, so he’s had his experience). Thom does better than he has done on any album, but the best vocals on the album are not his. Check out 2:25 on Chapter II. Yea- that’s the singer from Schoolyard Heroes, longtime friends of TFOT. She brings the intensity up to 11 with her operatic voice. Lyrics/Story- All you need to know is that the lyrics are solid, and the story is crazy. It is about a group sailing when a Ghostship attacks, and at some point a demon enters Thoms head. Shit goes haywire. What is odd is that the lyrics even hold up when they go into a spoken word poetry section read by Thom’s girlfriend. “In the darkness of your mind, I’ll stand by your side and remove all your fear. I’ll eat you alive my dear.” Most spoken parts in songs sound cheesy (check out The Necromancer by Rush, you’ll lol despite it being a good song). Guitar- Fuck me sideways. I’m really not even going to talk about this. Seriously. Insane. Insane. Insane. This CD has some quiet guitar parts that would make Dragonforce shake in their boots. Listen to this with headphones to get the full effect. Bass- Frank has improved the quality of bass playing on this album. As simple and generic as that sentence is, it is fully true. And since he’s black, he obviously is good. (YAY RACISM!) But to be honest, Frank actually worked with and changed up some stuff occasionally, BUT they turned him down way too low in the mix. A little bit more volume would help, but still solid. Drums- Second biggest improvement from vocals. In the four year time from the demos, Andrew has improved his playing immensely. Just check out the drum solo at the end of Part III. His work with Frank is better than it was with Ward’s, sometimes playing a more jazz style than punk with their bass and bass drum working together, which is how it should be in music. Interludes- Trippy, intense, and fitting. At some point it kinda sounds a little bit like a solo Omar album… Pros- All of the above Cons- Franks bass turned down too low, and might be too crazy for you if you’re a wuss or you like shitty music. No need to actually make this review any longer. Get this fucking album now. They only made 3000 copes to sell though. And if you missed out on the preorder (which sold out), and you cant make it to the west coast for their tour with Number Twelve Looks Like You (jazz fusion metal), then you gotta download this baby. But TFOT supports that, so who cares? On a side note, go see these guys live. Did you think Rock and Roll was dead? (If you say that it isn’t dead, and that GH and RB revive it, just remember that Miley Cyrus likes Guitar Hero. Those games are ruining rock as we know it with the Jonas Brothers.) Fuck no! Thomas Erak is THE definition of rockstar. You might hear him playing something and think, “how the hell does he do that?” But then you realize he is singing at the same time. Then you see him live, watch him get a concussion on the first song, and then he plays an hour set anyway inside a 125 degree building, all the while jumping into the crowd and flailing around every single song… and he still manages to get many many hot chicks despite smelling and sweating more than anyone in the area. Not to mention, the band is very real, and will even do drugs with you if you bring them… Posted in Tunes 2 Pwn Face 2 Tagged: abominations, demos, Doppleganger, ep, Fuck, ghostship, intense, Japanese Rape Game Only In Arcades!, Manipulator, phantom on the horizon, Review, schoolyard heroes, terrorism, the fall of troy </itunes:subtitle>

Not to mention, the band is very real, and will even do drugs with you if you bring them… Posted in Tunes 2 Pwn Face 2 Tagged: abominations, demos, Doppleganger, ep, Fuck, ghostship, intense, Japanese Rape Game Only In Arcades!, Manipulator, phantom on the horizon, Review, schoolyard heroes, terrorism, the fall of troy </itunes:summary>

Sometimes, you’d have to look up store hours because you broke the controller on a table corner because KINTARO CAN JUMP AND THROW YOU AND YOUR DREAMS OF VICTORY TO THE GROUND. Which brings me wanting to kill fictional people/creatures in a FUN and CREATIVE manner. That’s right, the ever-infamous FATALITY. The right combination of buttons and BOOM! … BOOM! … BOOM! And, every once in awhile And, more often than not, this happens However, recently the Fatality we all know and love has been compromised. A visit to the Tube of You had me a little peeved at the lack of “umph!” Not from a strictly bloody standpoint, I mean the creative edge to the fatality. Like Liu Kang’s classic “MK Arcade Machine Falling from the Sky” trick, or the “Make the World Explode with a Metric Fuck-Ton of Bombs to Kill One Person” gem. Keep in mind, MK vs. DC was in MK’s arena. MK had the home field advantage and they dropped the ball as far as the Fatality goes. Yes, they had to downgrade to a “T” rating, but did that really call for innovation to plunge down the chute? Hell, most of the “Heroic” Brutalities you see from DC Heroes are more harsh than most of the Mortal Kombatant’s Fatalities. Which is odd because you’d think with how insane some of the crushing blows can be (i.e. Superman freezing the opponent, lifting them to the sky, dropping them and landing on their pelvis… ouch). One thing I did like in the “Heroic Brutality” area of things was, with little surprise, the Green Lantern’s finishing moves. I can’t tell if it’s due to bias or if all the other finishers just suck. Not all were a waste of time, but a lot of them were. The one fatality that made me say “YES! THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE BADASS!” was altered for the sake of white parents who want their kids coddled for them. I’m talking about the Joker’s “Fake-Out Gun then Shoot that Maw Fucka with a Real Gun” Fatality. It was simple, but it was made of the things that made Mortal Kombat great. When the footage of the final product of moved the camera towards the Joker when he fired the gun, I realized that what was once the Powerhouse of convenient, living room-ready violence had bowed down to suck off the the WHITE man. I really hope this game has fantastic gameplay, because it still looks like it can be fun. And it’s not like you have to pull off a “Mercy” or defeat your opponent with low kicks to set up a shitty Fatality. They all look pretty easy to execute (buh duh, tssssh!) and the interactive environments may save this title. As far as the art of the Fatality is concerned, the next MK (if they decide to make another one) or MK crossover better have an ABSURD amount of violence. I’m talking Cannibal Holocaust head-butting Kill Bill in the vag while Planet Terror curb-stomps the elevator scene in The Shining. Like if Niagara Falls were on its period, that would be close to what I’m getting at. Part two of this report will come after I have a chance to play the game. STAY TUNED!
