Download MP3 | Download Ogg I vowed long ago that I would never just pod fad. I would let you know when it was over. Well, it is over. This is the final episode of the Linux User Podcast. I am unemployed and need to concentrate on finding a job. This is probably a permenant good bye to the Linux User Podcast. I may podcast again next year, but if I do it will be spiritual in nature. I will keep the website up and running for as long as I can. The next hosting bill is due in December 2009. If I can make that, the site should be up for another 6 months after that. Right now the funds are very low, so we will see how it goes. Please remember my family and me in your prayers. Thank you, God bless, and good bye. FEEDBACK: Thank you Jess, Steven, Clyde, Brian for your emails.
Nmap Featured In The Movies

In The Bourne Ultimatum (IMDB), the CIA needs to hack the mail server of a newspaper (The Guardian UK) to read the email of a reporter they assassinated. So they turn to Nmap and its new official GUI Zenmap to hack the mail server! Nmap reports that the mail server is running SSH 3.9p1, Posfix smtpd, and a name server (presumably bind). They also make substantial use of Bash, the Bourne-again shell. Congratulations to Roger Chui for being the first to spot this. He also sent a scene transcript and the following HD screen shots (click for full resolution): Other movies which have used Nmap include: Matrix Reloaded, Bourne Ultimatum, 13: Game of Death, Battle Royale, The Listening, and, uhh, HaXXXor: No Longer Floppy. Screens shots of Nmap in all of these movies are available on our new Nmap movies page. Nmap has become quite the movie star!

Running Multiple OS’s With VirtualBox

Have you ever wished you could run multiple OS’s on top of your main OS? Well, with a program called Virtual Box you can. Virtual Box allows you to create your own virtual machines running on top of a host OS. Right Know I’m running a Ubuntu virtual machine on top of Windows Vista which is my host operating system. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, Macintosh and OpenSolaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4 and 2.6), and OpenBSD. The best part about Virtual Box is that it’s free. Virtual Box does run under Fedora but I’ve had some trouble with it. I’m hoping to do an episode of the podcast with detailed instructions for getting Virtual Box to run under Fedora. Virtual Machines require a lot of memory so if you want to multi-task between VM’s and your host OS your going to want at least 1gb of RAM and even...

Virtual Machines require a lot of memory so if you want to multi-task between VM’s and your host OS your going to want at least 1gb of RAM and even then it will be slow. For smooth multi-tasking I’d recommend 2gb of RAM. I got Fedora Core 8 uo and running fine in Virtualbox. I have tried Microsoft’s Virtual PC 2007 but it doesn’t work well at running linux. I like Virtual Box because you can use up to 128mb of shared memory for graphics which comes in hand when your running a linux distro that uses compiz, compiz fusion etc. With Virtual Box it’s easy to try out different linux distros. I would highly recommend VirtualBox to anyone looking for a free Virtual Machine Manager/Creater.</itunes:subtitle>
