Last week, the mail was in fact nothing like “the male”, because Alex won’t let “the male” escape under any circumstances whilst “the mail” totally evaded our podcast last week, you may have noticed the mail theme music but no actual mail. Sorry! Rest assured all of you who e-mailed or messaged us with questions, will have them addressed in this episode. Our most humble apologies. We also got a voice mail from fellow podcasters, Destroy All Podcasts. Judging by what they are reviewing, they are certainly chaps after my own heart. I’m going to check them out and you should too. Tales from the East….or West We discuss how me and Alex met and the whacky adventures that ensued at the very professional, “English centre”. Mail Watcher Angel raises our podcast “above the rabble” with her always wonderful e-mails which always bring up wonderful points for discussion. We also get our very first “voice message” from “GeneralBeefy”, who asked us if we knew anything about “The Cockpit”. You’re in for a treat GeneralBeefy, I do own the Cockpit and I am also in the process of obtaining a high quality subbed version which I shall review and post in the near future. (Yes, post the video for download!) ZombieToaster, a chum of mine from the Heart Of Madness forums, makes Alex’s day with the mention of the Russian version of “War & Peace”. Review: Aura Battler Dunbine Probably the most epic review yet; a whopping 49 episodes long, this TV comes from Yoshiyuki Tomino, the “Father” of Gundamn. It’s difficult to sum up this review in words, suffice to say, this is the “Andromeda” of anime; A Fantastic first half utterly ruined by studio intervention, however unlike Andromeda, the last episode is pretty darn awesome. Tomino (Suffering from depression at the time) gives us a real “SCREW YOU, EVERYBODY!” ending, with tragedy only surpassed by Space Runaway Ideaon. (Also by Tomino). Also notable for being the first Mecha show to combine fantasy elements. It’s a wrap! Coming up, an “experimental” Anime Pacific Special: Tales From Asia…Woooooooooooo! (Cue Ed Wood-esque Sci-Fi music)</itunes:subtitle>

It’s our 6 month anniversary! No obscure anime uploads this week! We go mainstream; very mainstream. Well…for this week at least as yours truly reviews “Highlander: The search for vengeance”. Download Episode 26 here. powered by ODEO Shootin’ The Breeze We discuss the awesome awesomness of the awesome YouTube successor: Divx Stage 6 It’s like youtube but faster, better quality and a great place for anime fansubs! (Do remember, I did upload Wannabe’s to divx stage 6, please check it out if you have the time and let us know what you think.) Anime Pacific is going to be reviewed on the Podcasterwhoiswho podcast on the 12th. How lovely! We discuss how Podcast Pickle has gone to utter poo, especially with it’s crappy interface which makes browsing on a microfiche orgasmic in comparison. Console Wars! Review: Highlander: The Search For Vengeance Let it be known; Nobody can water down Kawajiri; at least not too much. This film is classic Kawajiri, take that for what you will. All of his attributes are apparent here, including his flaws. The end result is a somewhat uneven but immensely satisfying action film. Stylistically identical to Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, this is one beautifully animated film. I imagine hardcore Highlander fans will be kick up a stink than hardcore anime fans. Speaking as a Highlander fan, there are certian elements of the Highlander mythology that aren’t explained in this film; to the detriment of anyone who hasn’t seen any Highlander film before. To the uninitiated, certain elements of this story will seem like incoherant tripe unless you have a basic understanding of the Highlander Universe. At the same time, certain story conventions are sure to annoy some avid Highlander fans; Taking place in the future was a gamble, considering the mess that was “Highlander II: The Quickening”. It sucks becuase it’s anime and all anime is the same. It sucks because I didn’t get it. Did you even watch it, MacDougal? We then talk about the Suicide of a Agriculture & Fisheries minister in Japan over something relatively harmless compared to most American political scandals. Homesick? Alex discusses his “homesickness” for Japan. Home is where the heart is, afterall. He also discusses some interesting considerations to make about life in Japan as a foreigner, it’s not as easy as it sounds and is an invaluable little bit of advice to anyone thinking of doing the same. This does slightly veer off into the dirty realm of the ESL industry for a while. Debito’s website about his adventures of becoming a Japanese citizen can be found . News! Nymphet cancelled! Oh, the shock. The pain…This is akin to the Nazi party burning works of great literature…. Well…no, not really. But somewhat connected, this manga is just about the biggest atrocity since World War II and it won’t be making it’s way to American shores afterall. Let’s have a look at the tasteful ways which the 8 (yes E-I-G-H-T) year old protagonist tries to win the affections..No…wait..What’s the word I’m looking for…oh yes, “cock”, of her primary school teacher. Luckily, as this manga is tasteful, there’s no underage drinking depicted in this masterpiece. The delightful protagonist prefers drinking from a water fountain, like everyone else! How sweet and insinuation-free! The scary part…It’s written by a female and I’m told that the target demographic is for older teens… Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou Season Two I only watched the first episode of season one and found it incoherant to say the least. Mini Review: Tokyo Godfather’s Satoshi Kon, how we love thee. Alex loved it of course. Satoshi Kon has yet to dissapoint. I’ve yet to see it. I know, disgusting aren’t I? Review: Wanna-Be’s I love the 80’s. Love ‘em. For the purpose of this review, this is a good thing. One who does not at least have an understanding of the 80’s will probably lose a large amount of enjoyment from this obscure anime title. Obscure, yes. However, a relatively significant title at the same time. This anime is significant due to it being the first pairing of Toshimichi Suzuki and Kenichi Sonada who would later be responsible (at least in part) for “Bubblegum Crisis”, “AD Police” and “Gall Force”; all featuring Sonada’s characters designs and Suzuki’s influence in one way or another, either as original Manga-ka, planning or executive producer. This, their first collaboration, is an epic cautionary tale about mixing Alien DNA and Japanese Female Tag-Team Wrestling. Now, just to prove what a smashing young fellow I am. I managed to obtain this rare anime, re-encode it to DVD resoltuion with some sharpening & anti-aliasing and present to you, yes present, the best quality version of this anime in existence. Review: Agent Aika Virgin Mission I think Alex liked it more than me. We will be watching future installments, so it wasn’t that bad overall. I just felt that if a panty fetish themed show is lacking in story, then it shouldn’t be lacking in panty shots or vice-versa. We decided that quality is more important than quantity. Thus, the epic 140 minute show might be a thing of the past. Sorry if my prose is not what it normally is, but I have a splitting headache, feel dizzy and the first 10 mintues of the podcast took well over a day to make alone . Next week Alex is back, Anime Person Of The Week returns to it’s former glory and I’m sure Alex will have a lot to say about the content of this episode! Until then, bye bye!</itunes:summary>

Not quite the whackiness that you might be used to, as we get a very interesting letter about the perception of Japanee in Asia and touch upon a few sensitive subjects this episode. Due to Alex’s unavailability next week and lack of timing, no Anime person of the Week like what was promised last week. Sorry! Download Episode 19 powered by ODEO Shootin’ The Breeze Do you feel Sony hatred that has swept the globe? The catastrophe that is the PS3 is one such manifestation of that apparent hatred. We discuss how we feel about the format wars (again) and subsequently the console wars. Alex also discusses his rage at these new white pants that Japanese scientists have developed which ensure that no underwear is visible. Thus subsequently leads to a discussion about “taboo” trends in Japan compared to elsewhere. Honestly, I had no idea about some of these trends and why anyone would actually care, but Alex assures me it’s pivotal. News Monolith asks us about the perception of Japanese in Asia. A rather epic question to say the least. I’m unsatisfied with our reply as I think it could have warranted a podcast in itself. Needless to say, we deal with Asian disharmony everyday in some small way or another. We also get an E-mail from Eeeper of Eeeper’s Choice fame, with a very detailed response on anime demographics and Code Geass. Glad you listen to the show Eeeper! Watcherangel informs us that South Park have a whole episode dealing with the whole “You go girl” aspect of 300 that we ranted about for 2 podcasts! We’ll certainly be checking that out! David Lee & Jake also informed us that Kiss-Dum has been subbed! Huzzah! News Nagasaki mayor slain by gangsters From all accounts a pacifist and a good man. If someone had to be shot, why couldn’t it have been the mayor of Tokyo? Romeo X Juliet to be streamed for free If you can speak Japanese, you’re in for a treat! Berserk to rerun in the coveted 11pm Animax Timeslot One of the, if not the, greatest anime TV series of all time, is being rerun in the coveted 11pm timeslot. This is usually done when a production company wants to test the waters, meaning that more Berserk anime could finally be on the way. 3000 turn up to Raoh’s funeral Apparently the greatest blurring of fantasy and reality for any event based on a fictional character in Japan. 3000 (some weeping) fans braved icy rain to pay their respects to Hokuto No Ken’s Raoh. Spring 2007 Impressions II Alex gives his two cents on the shows I talked about last week. Suprisingly, Darker than black was number one on his list. Heroic age continues to be great. Alex’s take on Sola was 100% the same as mine. Wrapup Alex is off to Rainy River next week, but we’ve pre-recorded some stuff to play in his absence next week. Next week, will have a special suprise for those of you who have been with the show for a while. Until then, my pretties!</itunes:subtitle>

Wait a minute Mr Postman! Our good chum Jake, whose an equally good sport, replies about our naughty little joke last week followed by a reply from David Lee, who pasted this link which details the upcoming Spring Anime Season for 2007. Seeing as the always great Anime Genesis is covering this, we just talk about the upcoming Mecha Titles. Without a doubt Kissdum, Engage Planet is the Mecha Show that has us the most excited. The animation looks stunning and one of the deities of mecha design, Shoji Kawamori has returned to his Macross roots in mecha design and churned out some very impressing designs. Idolmaster Xenoglossia on the other hand, seems to feature all the cliches that Alex hates. I mean, combining a property based off some cutesy idol game with Mecha!? Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann We are cautiously optimistic about Gainax’s new Mecha Show. It has all the features of parody which might be fun, unless it really is just a run of the mill Mecha show. Heroic Age Probably the second most anticipated show for us. The animation and mecha look great, and it’s mixed with Greek Mythology to boot! Alex probably won’t watch it if that cute little critter in the trailer catches his eye though. Kishin Taisen is notable for the fact that pretty much ever deity in mecha creation has a hand in the mecha designs in this show. But the story scream cliche. There wasn’t even a damn mecha in the trailer though! Each mecha represents one country in the world and Japan just had to chose a 14 year old boy and girl. Benu, of Anime-Genesis fame whilst kindly offering some help, showed us this amusing picture of our “live news feed”. Apparently, there’s some pro wrestler called Hentai, thus he turned up in the feed! WatcherAngel also sent us a reply about our 300 rant, our Rapeman review and probably one of the best questions we’ve been asked. The question being about what the exact difference between an “Oni” and “Youkai” is. I stumble through a reply which I’m sure the great Obakemono project can say better than me! Suffice to say, that Youkai can be best termed as Mythological beasts, thus Oni would indeed fall under the category of Yokai. On a sidenote, several Yokai are in fact related to Chinese beasts. Word of mouth and the “importation” of Buddhist brought some of the imagery of these critters to Japan, though the Japanese version naturally changed over the years. Oni is such a beast. Review: Cyber City Oedo 808 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber_City_Oedo In my opinion, Kawajiri’s best. The quintessential Cyberpunk Anime and a great example of the dying “Hard Cyberpunk genre.” As you know, we are also avid Ghost In Shell fans, but as one reviewer said it best “Ghost in the Shell may be Cyber, Akira may be Punk. but when I think of cyberpunk, I immediately think of Cyber City OEDO 808. An absolute classic which marks the “orgasm” of the age of OVAs. Also check out the wonderful wonderful fanpage for Cyber City Oedo. http://www.oedo.net Wrapup Well, we’re both in a hurry, thus the completely non anime related music I tacked on at the end.
The temperature has since doubled in Hong Kong since our last episode. Oh how I hate summer. And yes, we talk about 300, AGAIN. Download Episode 16 Here. Those naughty royals Perhaps our most immature segment yet! Check out these pictures of the Danish royal family’s visit to Japan. There is a hysterical, yet childish sexual connotation in every single picture. Picture one: Yep! They’re real. Picture Two: The Emperor is above indecent exposure laws! Picture Three: Now that’s what I call a salute! And, the princess also met with the “prince” of animation, Miyazaki! For some reason, we discuss Japanese police in Japan and the public perception of Japanese police. Here is one such video that made shockwaves across Asia. Two Japanese police running like girls from a bat wielding maniac. Note, that the bulk of the video is in Cantonese, this is a TVB Hong Kong’s news report of the incident. However, they seem quite apt at defeating the Sith. We pay tribute to one of the best police force...

Alex then recalls an amusing story about when he was pulled over by police in Japan for speeding in a rice field. It’s ‘con Season (apparently) We’ve never been to a con. Ever. I know it’s shocking, but we’ve never had an opportunity to before! Anyway, would we cosplay? Short answer no. I suppose if you want to cosplay, you shuold do it right. For examples on how not to cosplay, check below! Haruhi Suzumiya fans are going to have to find another character to whack off to after they see this pic. Alex, (just to piss me off) thought this guy was me. Compare THAT, to THIS ladies! (It’s me) Mr Postman Alex, the grammar Nazi, isolates our fanbase further and further! We get a fantastic e-mail from a hardcore mecha fan and talk about the “decline of the Mecha”. For those interested the two classic Mecha animes that I mentioned were Space Runaway Ideon & Aura Battler Dunbine (which I will review soon). News Not too much this week, but we talk in depth about Bandai’s BS excuse for their extremely expensive US release of Freedom and why it’s BS. (Thanks to AWO for making me aware of this forum post). Anime Person Of The Week: Shigeru Mizuki This time, unless last weeks debarcle, I chose someone close to my own heart; Shigeru Mizuki. This guy is big in Japan, I mean huge. Sadly, a lot of foreign anime fans probably don’t know much about him or his work. Most known for his popularization of Japanese folklore, his life story alone is worthy of a segment. Drafted and sent to New Guinea in World War II, he struck a close friendship with the Tolai tribe who took care of him when he lost his arm (his drawing arm no less) and when he caught Malaria. Incidently, my own Grandfather fought in New Guinea during World War II so I myself have heard a lot of tales of New Guinea. Mizuki is most known for the wonderful GeGeGe Kitaro which is one of the greatest anime/manga classics of all time and STILL running strong with a new TV series and live action film ont he way. I can’t stress enough how big Mizuki-San and his work is in his native Japan. The street of his birth has statues of Yokai all the way down and a Yokai museum which was featured in Takashi Miike’s wonderful “Yokai Daisenso” (In which Mizuki-san had a cameo) For more about the beasts of Japanese folklore, the Yokai, I strongly recommend: The Obakemono Project Also from that website: The Fantastic Shigeru-Mizuki English Language Resource Page (Which English links to some of the Manga and episodes with English subs). They’ve also got a forum there, so check it out please!</itunes:subtitle>

Just when we thought “APAC” rolled off the tongue easily, we discovered that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee already claim this acronym. Damn you! Download Here This is our longest episode yet; Two whole hours! (Standard for some podcasts!) We discuss something completely un-anime related; 300. Seeing as everyone else is talking about it, we thought we would too. In short: We hate “You go girls!” who ruin historical films. This in turn brings us to a somewhat related anime topic; My favourite Genre: Fantasy (A genre that anime covers quiet well). As well as being the “producer” of Anime-Pacific, I’m also the “head” of Bubby Subs, which is devoted to fansubbing fantasy films and TV shows from around the world (Not just anime). Incidently my infamous “hegemony script” of Raoh Gaiden was done using babelfish and a whole lot of correcting, so it shouldn’t reflect the quality of the other fansubbed shows. Check out the “Bubby Subs” portal here. Alex has finally gotten around...

Check out the “Bubby Subs” portal here. Alex has finally gotten around to seeing Freedom Episode 1, which I review earlier. He LOVED it despite the blatant “Cup Noodles” product placement (which is fair enough, they put up the money for this!) This in turn leads to a brief discussion about product placement in TV shows and films. Please Mr Postman! We actually got enough mails & comments to warrant an entire segment (Two of which are from fellow podcasters.) We got a lovely e-mail (the first e-mail from a real female! gasp ) from WatcherAngel, who happens to be a damn fine artists. Please check out her gorgeous art here! We also got another e-mail from our good chum, Monolith; Who seems to know Alex more than we thought! He asked us our opinion on the whole “Subs VS Dubs” debate. On the whole ,we both prefer subs. However,I had no choice between dubs & subs in the early days of Anime in Australia. I also wanted to salute one of the best of early dub actors (or any really) who also performed in my favourite dub of all time; Macross Plus. That is “Malcom In The Middle’s” Bryan Cranston (Who voiced Isamu Daison) Review: Gasaraki Ok, well so it’s only about about the first 1/5 but if Alex doesn’t finish the series, I will! In Short, Mechas are immaculate but under utilized, non combat animation is flat and the plot and characters didn’t hold Alex’s interest. News ”....Bandai…...........” to release Freedom in the US. (With HD-DVD / DVD Hybrid disc) For $39.95 PER EPISODE!!!!!! Yes, Bandai have done it again, get a great property and lay a big, streamy crap on it. Japanese fans might pay those insane prices per volumes, but I don’t think it’s going to float overseas. Dororo yanked from theatres in Hong Kong I know I said I’d review it, but it was yanked within a week!! Japan’s no # 1 film was a colossal flop in Hong Kong. :( Anime “people” of the week: CLAMP This is by far, the crapiest “Anime Person Of The Week” segment thus far. Reason being in truth, I’m not really a CLAMP fan thus I don’t know much about them apart from their body of work. I ended up talking more about Rintaro than CLAMP itself in the end. It’s a wrap! Next week, I promise you the greatest “Anime Person of the week” segment yet. APPEAL Souten No Ken has unfortunately ended it’s rather poorly rated run in Japan. The word is that there’s no second season on the way, though I suppose great DVD sales could change that. The DVD’s themselves contain about 5 minutes extra per episode and a whole lotta blood that was cut from the TV version. Our good friend “Loverofhokuto” had translated the first eight uncut episodes of Souten No Ken and is planning one great fansub release for the fans (perhaps the DVD iso with subs included!!!) and is in need of one thing. A proofreader who can understand Japanese. As he has translated the episodes from French into English, he wants a proofreader to ensure that he has made the best translation possible. Highlander Anime Trailer out Dane’s EXCITED! Great production values and Kawajiri at the helm. It looks identical in art and tone to Vampire Hunter D; Bloodlust. Tarantino’s next film has Hokuto No Ken reference? Actually, this seems somewhat inaccurate. From what imdb says, he just has producing credit. Nonetheless, apparently there is a biker gang in this called the “666’ers”. (Hokuto No Ken had a motorbike gang all with 666 tatooed on their foreheads). 4 Kids Losing Money Again I’m sure it’s due to the expense of hiring genuine, talented rap artists for the US One Piece opening song. Ex Adult Star & TV Personality Ai Iijima to retire wipes tear ALEX REVIEWS SOMETHING! Code Geass A whopping 30 minute review, mostly about how he feels that the interesting alternate history seems contrived and not considering some key historical facts. Review: Aachi & Sspipak Yes, not technically an anime. But as Manhwa has been embraced by a certain niche of anime/manga fandom I wanted to take the opportunity to review this quirky film. Also of note is that a lot of people responsible for this film are heavily involved in anime production (as much of the work is farmed to South Korea). Judging by the technical skill depicted here, our anime is in good hands! In a word: One of the most thouroughly entertaining animated films in recent memory. See it with as many friends as posssible and you’ll have an absolute ball. I HIGHLY recommend this film, and YesAsia has it for a very reasonable $27 US dollars (with free international shipping) here. Wrapup No anime person of the week this week, as we had two reviews and clocked in at a healthy 90 minutes plus. We briefly discuss an e-mail we got from Jake regarding CLAMP which we’ll save for next week as we plan on making them, the next “Anime Person (in this case people) of the week.” Until next week my darlings.</itunes:subtitle>

Lady luck decided to bail out on me at a rather bad time, much to Alex’s amusement. (I won’t even bother trying to explain what happened, just listen) Download Episode 13 Shootin’ The Breeze Here is the offending image. Picture+Drama+02 +Large+04.jpg” Yes, a little more non anime geek speak than usual, but we’re overjoyed at the success of 300. Finally R Rated violence and gratuitous nudity has made a comeback in the age of PG-13. God bless, DuoMatrix. Anime Genesis obviously found out about my little mistake. Slam Dunk Live Action Film Jay Chou Taiwan’s most beloved singer to play title character. (He also played the title character in Initial D) Good casting choice? You decide. Dororo Coming To Hong Kong on the 15th with English Subtitles Expect a review from yours truly! Probably the episode after next as I plan on watching 300 next weekend. Code Geass to get second season Have you seen the butts on the characters in this show!? I’ll personally fund a third season, once I learn how to actually pronounce Geass. Review: Vampire Hunter D (The original ‘85 film) It’s great for nostalgia, but compared to the rest of the Vampire Hunter D stuff out there, it doesn’t stand the test of time as well. For Nostalgia Value, I give it 3.5 Stars. Take aware the nostalgia value, minus a star. Wrapup Another shorter episode this week, time differences contribute to this somewhat, but expect longer episodes in the future as normal. Stick around all the way to the end for a little bonus! Until Next Week My Pretties!</itunes:subtitle>

With a title like that, I can’t wait to see how people find out podcast this week. powered by ODEO Download Episode 12 This episode is almost exactly half the length of our previous one, clocking in at around 50 minutes. (And would probably run for about 25 minutes if I cut out all the times I say “Andddddddddd”. News It was a rather slow week this week with news, and the item that we talked about the most wasn’t even really an anime! This show fascinates us to no end. Translated to something to the effect, “A Squirrel and a Hedgehog” it’s both hilarious and frightening at the same time. The production values are also very impressive. I pledge to try and get this baby fansubbed. Anyone here who can speak Korean PLEASE e-mail us! The Appleseed 2 Trailer I am not impressed. Alex thinks it looks pretty good though. It seems that this one is completely in 3D and over-stylized as possible, conforming to every cliche that has overidden action films in general, the “bullet-time” cam and wh...

Why rip off the Matrix when that was really a ripoff of a vast amount of Shirow’s work anyway? Japanese Box Office This news is a few months late, but no real suprises here. Doraemon, Pokemon, Death Note (Live Action), Detective Conan and Tales of Earthsea round out the Anime/Manga related titles that made the most in the Japanese box office in 2006. Earthsea, unsuprisingly was the #1 Japanese film of the year. Blue Dragon sells 15 million units on the DS It may have been a hit by XBox 360 in Japan standards, it proved to be an absolute megahit on a Japanese device. An anime & manga is on the way too. Gintama Volume 1 sales cross the one million mark & Mini Review: Gintama (Anime version) This IS the latest Shounen megahit, Gintama merchandise is already all over Asia and it just may be watchable for those of you who are usually put off by Shounen epics with 10 episode fight scenes and endless episodes. I’ve quite enjoyed it thus far. It’s got much more of an emphasis on comedy and is watchable in the same way something like the Simpsons may be. It doesn’t consist of 20 episode fighting arena arcs or anything like that. (At least so far) Anime Person Of The Week: Yoshihiro Togashi Could these two pictures be any more different? That’s what a nervous breakdown will do to you! Creator of Yu Yu Hakusho & Hunter X Hunter as well as the recipient of the Tezuka award, Yoshihiro Togashi is certainly a powerful figure in the Manga world. When Kekko Kamen is one of your magazine’s most prestigious titles, you’re in trouble! Japxploitation Mini Review: Zero Woman Warning: This Video Is NOT Safe For Work Alex, finally does some sort of a review. Not 100% anime related, but certainly Pacific related, and this is Anime Pacific. Alex also throws in an amusing 100% anime/pacific non related tale on how to tell your kids about the birds & the bees. Review: Appleseed (The 2004 Anime Film) Reviewing certainly isn’t as easy as you think. Well ok, it’s dead simple to review something you love, even easier to review something you hate. But when you have to make a review about something that screams mediocraty, it aint easy. Dane’s um’s and fumbling: Case in point. Anime Person Of The Week: Go Nagai Though these days, he might be associated with retro Looking characters and irreverant, ecchi comedies, his body of work and the impact they have made on the anime & manga industry as a whole, put him in the top 10 most influential in the shaping of the modern anime industry. Download Episode 8 Introduction Dane channels his “inner Mexican”. Alex channels his “outer nerdy social outsider” by lamenting that most of his time next to his wife involves thinking about his next turn of “Europa Universalis III”. We also discuss how it does seem like most of a podcaster’s audience is in fact, other podcasters. (Which coincidently, Kentcer at Up a paddle mentioned the same thing). ...

Afro Samurai Kelly Hu is rendered useless when doing voiceover work as you can’t actually see her. Samuel L. Well, kind of a pointy Slavic nose, certainly not African, and this annoys Dane to no end. Neither of us are really tentacle fans, but Dane considers him one of top 10 most revolutionary figures in the anime/manga industry.
I think Sunday is a good day for our Weekly release, don’t you? We actually recorded this episode almost straight after episode 1, but I spent most of the week editing it and putting it together. Much to our suprise, most of our initial visitors are actually from Japan itself. This is is pretty much totally due to a very kind person who runs a really interesting blog regarding anime fandom outside Japan. http://willowick.seesaa.net/ Not only did this result in a huge jump in visitors, but it also contained wonderful advice. Thank you so much! Download Episode 2 Introduction 0:00 – 26:40 Yes, our introduction is the longest single segment of the podcast. You’re paying 10 times the price if you order these on the net, as well as the fact that you’d be funding organized crime.) We also chat a little bit about Alex’s returning to the anime light with Ghost in the Shell. Promo: Weekly Anime Review 26:40 – 27:12 The always great, Weekly Anime In Review. We’re in the process of making a good promo as well, I do kind of want to ask other podcasters if they want to play our promo if we’d make it but I don’t want to shove it in their face at the same time. News 27:13 – 49:58 More emotional ranting from Dane & Alex. Not much actual news from Asia, (except Japan) but there’s some stuff coming up here which I’ll talk about next week. The rape of One Piece is complete Did we ever doubt it? We also discuss some of the stuff they did, including the infamous “Black guy cut”. I suppose they were afraid that people would compare it to this: They also made a Christmas tree into a purple “Non Denominational holiday tree”. WHAT THE F K. Naruto Filler To End Hitler must be freezing his ass off in hell right about now. To truly propel it to Dragonball status, Naruto gets it’s “Z”. Alex verbally rapes the Dragonball franchise, while Dane defends the original. Frank Agrama in da sh. Alex takes this chance to defend Carl Macek with all the man-love he can muster. This in turn, takes us to the subject of violence in anime. Where Robotech had deaths in almost every episode, 4 Kids sees the need to butcher One Piece. We look back at the mid 80’s before the Soccer Mum’s (that’s Mom’s in Yanklish) took over. Chinese film adaptation of Manga, Bokko (Battle Of Wits) number one at Hong Kong box office Dane gives a mini-review of the film, which he saw on opening day in a packed crowd. (Half which were high school girls wanting to watch their beloved Andy Lau) Then takes an opportunity to bash the Swine-Steins, who hopefully won’t touch this. Promo: Anime World Order 50:00 – 50:34 Not so indepth review of Ghost In The Shell: Solid State Society Alex discusses the role that Ghost In The Shell plays in his life. Especially now, in the “Dark Ages” of sci-fi, with Star Trek dead in the water, the Star Wars films over, Firefly dieing a brutal death with Serenity’s failure, Babylon 5 & Farscape over. (Our next episode’s person of the week) Dane proceeds to repeat himself with the fact that this was on pay-per view and it’s budget and then curses loudly as he types the shownotes and realizes this. Alex attacks the Fuchikoma’s and wins because Dane can’t get a word in. That means we’re allowed to screw up a bit on our first episode! On that note, let’s talk about the sound issues; Yes, I know my Audio was rather screwed up, while Alex sounded like he was recording from Disney studios in comparison. That, will be fixed. However, the fact that my sexy, husky, man-tear inducing voice clearly outshines Alex’s Corey-Feldman-esque voice… This I cannot help, bear with the poor fellow please! Anyway, as this is a “pilot” some things will probably change or improve over time. My review was in fact a first episode review and thus, more of a preview. Regarding the “Anime Industry” person of the week segment, Alex will be there with me next time. He was rather busy this week.
