I was asked to give a presentation for the From Courses to Dis/Course online conference last week, and chose the topic of identity as it relates to openness. My session, Identity in the Open Classroom, was a fun (for me, anyway) exploration of the issues, and I think served the purpose of framing discussion. Here’s the video of the recording from the session: [See post to watch QuickTime movie] the full chat transcript for the session is available, as well as the full Elluminate session recording. and the slide that wound up framing much of the question and answer portion:

I was interviewed yesterday for a CBC Radio News report that was on the air this morning. We talked for about 15 minutes, and most of it hit the cutting room floor. But at least the bits that got broadcast weren’t too embarrassing… CBC Radio News - Bikes in Calgary

Walking tour of University of Calgary Campus

Back in the heady early days of podcasting - all the way back in 2005 - one of the first use cases of the technology was to create “walking tours” where a narrator could guide students through a tour of an area. When video podcasting became possible, it would make the guided tours more effective because you could show supplemental or orienteering images to support the narration. Fast forward to 2008, and the TLC just produced a walking tour of the U of C campus, featuring Julie Walker, a naturalist and hiking guide with the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre. Grab a copy, drop it on your iPod (or PSP, or cell phone, or laptop, or *cough* Zune) and follow along as Julie as she guides you across campus. [See post to watch QuickTime movie]
