If you don't know about it Dancemania is a label out of Chicago that started in the mid 80's with some pretty known anthems and artists. It wasn't till the early 90's when the more known names such as: DJ Funk, Paul Johnson, Dj Deeon, etc. were putting out heaters on DM, with ghetto and disco sounds. Within a few years the label put out more songs that you could download in one day off of hype machine. By 2001 they put out the DM 300!! Over 300 songs on a single independent label out of Chicago! Pretty cool if ya ask me? That being said we had to choose from a nice handful of songs. Also the original approach for this mix tape was "ghetto house" also know as juke, ghetto tech, jit, among others. 'Suspense Is Killing Me' for Mad Decent has been released. You may have heard the title track in Diplo's Turtles mix from last year - and its finally available for purchase! The E.P. also contains 2 other club influenced tracks in 'The Cricket Scores' and 'Bulbs Burn Out' and an awesome remix of 'Suspense' by Drop The Lime. To celebrate the release I have done a little mix for Mad Decent radio... Its a little selection of my current favourite tracks and influences all mashed together, From old computer game music, poppy stuff like LadyHawke to the hard electro stuff like The Proxy (Who's current tunes 'Dance in Dark' and Raven are the biggest tunes around!!) Techier stuff like Stephan Bodzin, through Popof, Bumpy Bmore kick drums and loops (DJ Sega and Say Wut). Melodic stuff (Oxia) through to friends and crew (Fake Blood, Crookers) and tracks that are just awesome (Focker) Anyway, I've only used elements of certain tracks in this mix, but all of them are worth tracking down and listening to. I really wanted to use the horns in the Say Wut thing, but I had real problems getting it all in key. Oh and I decided to try and re-edit the Focker track rather than just play it straight. its the Rolling stones of cumbia... with keyboard guitar and long hair and everything  a year later that tour guide - Grant (who manages the website whatsupbuenosaires.com and knows everyone in argentine) had started up a party in BA with some other local partners that kinda builds on the cumbia sound but breaks down all the local musics and turns out hip hop and house dancehall and shit its like argentintronix or something and its named after a philosopher (that married a hot argentinian girl) - ZIZEK..  last month was a year into the party and played it and it was nuts.. . its kinda like the local kids are developing the sound and putting it out there with different influences...  they had a table selling local producers stuff and the seller dudes was like Ãthis one is north argentinian folkstep gauchito cowboy cumbia! this one is psychadelic cumbia! this one is progressive minimal cumbia! this is cumbia-mash...! anyway.. shit was poppin , even in europe - SAMIMs heater was the biggest club tune of the year (techno track samplin a big cumbia - its a take over!)  so I bought a bunch and then had a lil collection of cumbia ish stuff after buggin in and out of there over the last year.... also grabbe stuff from my boys in mexico back in july- Whats up Toy!
