One-Of-A-Kinds are Vogue (bling). They were such a hot item! Ms. CEOs ears went num from the earrings being awed, looked at and pulled on!!!
Veronica Marie-Finally a fashion forward maternity shirt that screams vogue, tell us how did you go from idea to creation? It started when I first found out I was pregnant with my daughter Ilan and was so excited I wanted everyone to know I was pregnant…but of course no one can tell for at least the first 4-5 months…so I started making my own shirts with funny sayings for my husband and I and got such a great response from friends and people on the street that I decided to take it one step further and create these designs for other expected mommas and papas. I had a brainstorming session and kept thinking off all these sayings (over 100 off them) but wanted to make them truly unique. So I came up with [bump] baby under manufacturing process (cause its hard work growing a baby) and trademarked the name and then incorporated that into every one of my sayings.

I actually came up with the name when I was thinking of cutsie names for a musical project I was doing. I am also a part time musician as well as crafter. I never ended up using the name for my musical project but decided to use it for something someday and that “something” ended up being the perfect name for my jewelry line/business. SHE unlimited- Tell us more about your epicurean wearable s, we should not attempt to eat them right? Please don’t eat them! HA HA Although many people tell me they want to which is ever so flattering. It’s my goal to have the items look as realistic as possible. A true challenge really but it keeps me going. Experimenting and learning new tricks is half the fun. The charms are all hand made by yours truly and are made into necklaces for people of all ages! SHE unlimited- You have a yummy list of scents to offer, are they all food inspired? Yes. Since the jewelry items that I create are sweets/dessert related I wanted everything to smell as close to the real thing as possible. I have a bunch of base scents that I mix with other scents to create what I feel is pretty close to the real thing.. in an artificial scent kind of way HA HA! I thought it was a really fun and original thing to do and it’s a true signature of Pancake Meow. SHE unlimited- Take us from idea, creation, then to a finished product. I LOVE cook books. A friend of mine actually just sent me this huge cook book full of photos of cakes and pies! I don’t go a day without looking through it. That’s mainly where an idea is born. I’ll usually work on something a few times before showing it I post lots of photos of my creations on my live journal blog. An idea usually begins from seeing something in a cook book and I’ll work on it until I feel it looks right. Sometimes weeks of working on an idea. Lots and lots of rough drafts! Most things are all trial and error and since they are all jewelry pieces I have to go about them in a different way than I would if I were making food miniatures for a dollhouse. The pieces need to be durable since people will be wearing them. Making miniature food in general isn’t an art for impatient people! It can be a real test sometimes but I’m addicted! SHE unlimited- Leslie, how do yo make your yummy food inspired miniatures? The question of all questions. HA HA! It’s really difficult to answer believe it or not. There are so many components involved into making the pieces. It really depends on the item I’m making. I always start with polymer clay and I use many different brands on the market. I really love fimo but sculpey does have it’s place! I use resin, paints, pastels, air brush and I LOVE my fancy little bench grinder! I was actually afraid of it at first! HA HA! It really depends on the piece on how it’s made. It all starts with clay and lots of layering and baking. Some of the items I make take 5 bakings or more which seems insane! SHE unlimited- What future products do you plan on implementing in the future? For the jewelry I’d really like to make more pastry items. One of my best friends is from France so I want to make some French inspired treats as well as more pies! I have a thing for pie crust. Aside from the jewelry I would like to create some fun stationery sets. I love designing and want to get more into that. If I may think BIG I’d LOVE to do design for a toy company. I am a big fan of a line of cute functional items from Japan called “Decole” and I’d love to design something for them! That would be a dream! SHE unlimited- How would a customer go about a made-to-order arrangement? Right now I’m not taking any custom orders. I had a mad rush of orders after being featured on the Daily Candy website and since then it has proven to be something I may have to discontinue doing. Since the Daily Candy rush I have learned a LOT. I’m one person making all these goodies and everyone wants something different with a different scent etc…. that can be lot of work! Since everything is made to order, each piece can take up to 2 hours or more depending on the design. It was fine when I could keep up but since launching my website I have had so many hits that I am now having to reconsider offering so many custom items. I will probably keep the cupcakes custom but other items may be made in limited quantitys. I do this for fun and for the love or it. I’d rather not feel rushed or overwhelmed and I want to do things on my terms and be 100 per cent passionate about it. It’s about quality not quantity for me. I don’t want to get stuck in a rut and I want have time to make other things and experiment more! I LOVE creating! SHE unlimited- Where is your studio? My studio is my kitchen in my very small apt here in Athens Ga! HA HA! It’s me, my oven and about 4 tables linked together! My husband also runs his business out of the apt as well so you can imagine how crazy it can get over here! SHE unlimited- Tell us, Who is Leslie? Leslie is…... many things. She’s a goofy free spirit! Lover of art, music, animals, iced coffee and scrabble (Although I never win) I’m incredibly young at heart and pretty much want what everyone wants which is to have fun and just enjoy life! SHE unlimited- Name 3 websites that capture your attention and inspire you. This is a very difficult question! I love so many sites! I am a big fan of Johanna Öst. An amazing artist from Sweden! www.johannaost.com. Karin Öst (also from Sweden www.lilyofthevalley.se who designs clothing and fun hair accessories, Lillian Piri (of Australia) www.littlegalaxie.com who is another fabulous artist! The website is www.babyyapyap.com What do you peep at for insight? My children Where is your studio? New Jersey What tools and materials do you use? There is not much needed in the tools and materials department.. I am very selective in the cotton garments that I use.The cottons used for Baby Yap Yap garments come from the most selected cotton fields . We use only ringspun yarn, single 24 count. The knitting of the cotton fabric is done on the most advanced high-speed Terrot machines. The weight of the fabric is 180 gram or 5.4 oz. When purchasing a Baby Yap Yap garment you can be sure that you are getting the softest cotton with the highest standard in quality and workmanship. I am also just as selective in the screenprinting process that we use. The screenprinted designs are high quality prints with ink that has a certain amount of stretch to insure that the designs don’t break apart but stretch right along with the fabric. The designs will also not fade or peel off because of the special process that we use.It is very important to me that we only produce the highest quality garments and gifts! [/font] Take us from Idea to Inspiration; then finished product? I have been in the childrens apparel/design business for many years. After helping many clients and customers start their own business’ my husband kept asking me why I don’t start my own business. I had all the resources to start a childrens line. So I did. There are all these funny names I always call my baby like “silly goose”, “hungry hippo”, “sleepyhead” etc… I decided to start with that. I wanted the design to give off a fun feeling – that’s how I got the idea for my designs. I got in touch with an amazing graphic artist and should I say the rest is history! While in your creative mode, do you listen to any music while you work? Oh music is on in the background all the time! I like to work in a cheerful atmosphere! Is there anything else you’d like to add? Besides for feeling accomplished that I actually started my own line, I must say I am having loads of fun doing it! How did you come up with such a facinating name? The name had to include baby since I was specifically doing a baby line. I wanted a name that people would say “what?” when they heard it. I also wanted something easy and different and associated to baby – Yap Yap was perfect! Did you “Sharon” design all the graphics on those cute oneies? I designed the idea (sketches etc..) but I am not familiar with graphic design. I contacted this most amazing graphic artist and she designed exactly what I had in mind based on my sketches and descriptions.</itunes:subtitle>

1. What is Macha Designs? Macha offers handmade wire-wrapping jewelry that is uniquely designed only using semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls, or Swarovski crystals, combined with 14k gold filled or sterling silver metals. 2. What does Macha mean, how did you come up with such an intriguing name? Macha means “green tea” in Japanese. When I needed a name for my new business, I looked around and noticed many emerging jewelry designers used their own names as business names. Well, I didn’t want to be like them because I thought it was dull and uncreative. But I did want to keep the business name personal and meaningful. Since I am a green tea addict who loves all things Japanese, Macha just made sense to me. Plus I love the way it sounds, so fun and spunky. 3. Take us from idea to creation in your jewelry pieces? Since I am a visual person, I usually like to make my new designs by first picking out the main stones I want in the new piece. For example, if I’ve made a lot of colorful pieces already, I may want to pick out something simple and universal, like a clear or black stone, to keep my collection balanced. Once my center piece is picked out, I’d stare at it, let my imagination go wild, and then ideas will just come naturally. 4. Are your pieces one-of-a-kind? Yes, every piece is one-of-a-kind and hand-made by me. 5. What are your thoughts on the “Celebrity Gift Bag” gifting idea? How do you feel about the latest publicist of Lindsay Lohan asking Indie designers to donate gifts to her girlfriends as favors? I think it is a great idea for any designer who wants to make it big. The kind of marketing you get from celebrities like Lindsay Lohan is worth millions. These donations are small, but smart investments. 6. What are your favorite materials to work with? I like working with colorful semi-precious stones, especially chalcedony. I love their half translucent and milky hues. 7. Tell us something about Tracy, who is she? I am an active person with many hobbies. By day, I keep it real and climb the corporate ladder like everybody else. By night, I make jewelries to keep my creative juices flowing. I am also a part-time singer on weekends, and I practice karate twice a week. I value variety and versatility, and I think you can see that through my designs. 8. Where can your jewelry be bought? I sell ready-made pieces at fashion events and festivals in Northern California. But customers can also place special orders by emailing me. Macha pieces are not available for purchase in stores or online. 9. Do you take personal to be made orders? Actually, everything I sell outside of events are made-to-order. I like keeping my customer base intimate and special. 10. What is your favorite search engine? Google. I am a loyal Google fan.</itunes:subtitle>

Although we have probably worked with around 100 freelancers to complete the project, it was important for us to maintain control to protect the integrity of what we were trying to produce. Belinda and I work extremely well together. Her strengths offset my weaknesses! Veronica Marie, SHE Unlimited- How did the both of you go from idea, creation and finally finished product? It took us over three years to get to the line that we had envisioned. What seemed like a relatively simple endeavor at first turned into a never ending project. Unlike most other children’s products, there is a significant learning curve that comes with the development of a media company – recording live musicians, puppet building, script consulting, filming and editing, apparel and plush design, foreign language translation/voiceovers, working with overseas manufacturers, etc. You name it, we’ve...

It took us a few iterations and several setbacks for us to arrive at the line we were finally proud of and willing to share with other parents. Veronica Marie, SHE Unlimited- Juno Babies graphics are very cute “Kawaii” and awe inspiring, who is the designer behind these lovely characters? All of the characters were created by Belinda who had been doodling these characters since she was a little girl except for Juno who we created together. Although they each look very different, they have some consistent characteristics which we find to be pretty cute and funny. Veronica Marie, SHE Unlimited- How challenging is it to contend with such characters like “Elmo” and “Sponge Bob”? It is incredibly challenging. When we decided to create Juno Baby, it was not as a hobby. We very specifically jumped in with the goal of supplanting the Goliaths in the industry. So competing with companies that have marketing budgets that are exponentially larger than our own is difficult. However, we feel that we have the research and content on our side. Unlike the competition, all of our music has been scored for and performed by live orchestral musicians. But most of all, I feel we have something that is unique and unable to be imitated. We have a quirkiness and sweetness to our characters that both parents and children really seem to adore. We have spread tremendously through word of mouth and have an incredibly faithful base of customers. Veronica Marie, SHE Unlimited- I understand “Juno Baby” won many awards? That is correct. We have been named to Dr. Toy’s top ten children’s video list for three years in a row. We have won the Dove Foundation’s highest ranking and were awarded a Preferred Choice Award from Creative Child Magazine to name a few. However, we are most proud of our expert and customer endorsements which we share on our website. One of our most important assets is our customers who have shared their feedback with us over the years. It has really helped us shape our new line. Veronica Marie, SHE Unlimited- It is very exalting to understand how the music was brought together , Belinda Takahashi, Ph.D is also the award winning composer? Belinda is modest. I am not. I’m her biggest fan. She has won numerous awards, has studied with several Pulizer Prize winners, and has had performances in places like Carnegie Recital Hall. She was a musical prodigy and was concertizing by the age of 8. She started her formal composition training at 10. Her range in composition is astounding – she can write in any style for any instrument. Her music in Juno Baby is absolutely beautiful, fun, and poignant – it’s lush, and flowing with beautiful melodies, harmonies, and counterpoint. What’s really so amazing is that the music is quite sophisticated yet so much fun to hear. We have had adults fall in love with the music so much that one of our customers recently told us that he made one of her songs into a ringtone and that she often misses calls because she just wants to listen to the piece. Veronica Marie, SHE Unlimited- Tell us more about the characters voices? Belinda and I do all of the character voices. We actually auditioned some people for a few of the roles but during the auditions, the actors themselves thought we did a funnier job. Veronica Marie, SHE Unlimited- What aspects were considered when creating the “Juno Baby” DVDs and videos? Did behavioral sciences play a large role? Absolutely. In terms of content, we made sure we based it on the leading research in child development. As a matter of fact, there was a very interesting research piece printed in the American Behavioral Scientist on media and child development. The study suggested that that programs where characters speak directly to the child, actively elicit participation, label objects, and provide opportunities to respond, were positively related to expressive language production and vocabulary. We hired one of the lead researchers of that study to make sure we were doing everything right. In addition, we also created bonus interactive features, language flash cards, and multiple languages tracks in English, French, and Spanish. Children between the ages of 0-5 are like sponges when it comes to language so the earlier the exposure, the better.</itunes:subtitle>

Please share with us why your outfit is devoted to bringing work within rural areas of Africa and how you came upon organizing such an effort? On a 2003 trip to Southern Africa our founder was shocked by the absolute poverty in Africa coupled with the incredible skills and potential of the African people themselves. She felt that all these skilled artisans lacked was access to a market with the disposable income to purchase their unique creations. The idea for Bridge for Africa was born when our founder met with a likeminded Zimbawean living in South Africa who decided to come on board to make the vision a reality. 3. Tell us your pitfalls and successes to bringing such an organization on line? The hardest part about Bridge for Africa is definitely that we are working in the real world, alongside real competitors. Our pieces compete against products made under sub-optimal labor standards in different areas of the world. The key to the success of Bridge for Africa and all other Fair Trade organizations is the recognition of consumers that the choices they make when buying a product affect the lives of those who were involved in the creation of that product, whether it be a beautiful handcrafted basket, a cup of coffee, or a bunch of bananas. 4. How did you unite with such an awe-inspiring idea and make it a reality? Bridge for Africa is made a reality by a concerted effort from individuals in Africa and in the U.S who volunteer their time and skills to put forward our best attempt to create as much work in Africa as we can. We partner directly with artisan groups themselves, cutting out the cost of the middleman, and creating a direct connection between consumer and producer. 5. How did you ascertain this partnership between Africa and the U.S. As mentioned before, our founder traveled to Africa and met with various groups there to develop what would become Bridge for Africa. We travel to Africa sa frequently as we can to connect face to face with the artisan groups and make sure we understand their needs and we can communicate what we need to make their products a success in the U.S market. I will be traveling to Ghana next week to connect with a fledgling group there that we are just trying to get off the ground. 6. The artsian work on your website is intricate work, fabulous, and I find the purse very unique and stylish. What kind of process do you use to determine what products will be found on your website? First and foremost we need a direct connection with the artisan groups themselves. We absolutely refuse to work through middlemen – we need to know the location, the names, and the entire story behind a group or an individual before we will even consider working with them, no matter how fabulous the product. Once we ascertain that the group meets our standards for paying a living wage in the local context and respects what we feel to be the core tenets of the dignity of work, we will go forward with looking at the product and seeing if we think it is something that will fit within our product range and the U.S market. Often we will work with the group on product development to find something that we think will really resonate with our audience in the U.S, both aesthetically and emotionally as a piece of Africa that they can take home with them. 7. The Bridge of Africa is a notable foundation, and incredibly inspiring, have you found the media to be an outlet for growth; or is it more word of mouth? At this point the media has not played a huge role in Bridge for Africa’s growth. We are a very small foundation, largely run by three individuals in the U.S until recently where we have started building a larger volunteer team and getting more people involved. Our growth has mostly been word of mouth. Obviously having a website leads to all kinds of exciting connections that you just cannot create without having a permanent online presence. 8. What powers your website? We use GoDaddy and our website is entirely maintained by a few volunteers in Los Angeles who built and created the website. Much thanks and appreciation have to go to Tessa Treadway and Jeff Gardner for this endeavor. 9. Tell us about the two founders behind “The Bridge for Africa” The founders often like to remain anonymous as they feel that Bridge is more about the African artisans than the founders themselves. Kathleen Vaughan has a background in corporate business and works with Wells Fargo in San Francisco. Kathleen and her husband John traveled to Africa for the first time in 2003 and came back to the U.S inspired to try to make a difference. While in Africa Kathleen met Therese Smith, our South African Director, who lives in very rural South Africa with her family and had always wanted to be able to uplift and empower her fellow Africans. Bridge has certainly grown a great deal even since 2003 but Kathleen and Therese were really the initial driving force behind the organization. 10.What search engine to you use? We try to use everyclick.com, where a small donation is made each time you use the search engine to a non-profit organization of your choose. We also use google routinely. 11. Please share 3 websites that you are inspired by. We are definitely always inspired by some of the big players in the Fair Trade world and their websites. I always like to check out www.un.org to see what’s going on at the UN and also routinely check on www.bbc.co.uk for my news fix.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>1. What is “The Bridge For Africa”? Bridge for Africa is a non-profit Fair Trade certified organization dedicated to promoting the dignity of work and self-sufficiency in rural Africa. Rather than giving a hand-out, we believe that giving someone the dignity of earning their own income increases hope for future generations and promotes peace and community wellness in Africa. We currently partner with 15 underrepresented artisan groups to design, develop and market unique handcrafted African collectibles. 2. I understand that you are a non-profit organization? 6.

Paper Bride offers a line of chic, fun, sweet greeting cards, postcards and announcements and accessories that help you to express your own individuality and emotions. You won’t find flowery, poetic admissions of love, or time honored romantic cliches on Paper Bride cards. We hate those sorts of cards and think that you probably do too. You will, however, find cards that help you apologize for being a Bridezilla, thank guests for traveling a long distance for your wedding or thank your parents for all of their support. You’ll find cards to send to your bridesmaids, your maid of honor or even to thank your florist. Paper Bride hopes to walk you through this whole process of wedded bliss from start to finish. We’ve used our experiences (as a former bride and a bride wannabe) to make sure that you make it to the “I Do” finish line with grace, style and a bit of chutzpah.

Doryn`s Dish On Sun Care

I am so honored and excited to be able to work alongside She Unlimited. I feel that it’s a perfect match for Doryn’s Dish and I know that together we will bring in a large audience of women from all over the globe who are looking for great information all in one place. In my short 29 years, there’s not a lot I haven’t done. I will be the first to admit I live a privileged lifestyle, but that doesn’t come with out appreciation and giving back to those in need. I am also a true believer that life is short and you should try everything once (well, almost everything). I grew up in a suburb of Massachusetts and lived in New York City for 8 ½ years. I have known my incredibly perfect husband Ty (I really mean that, he really is) for 7 years and have been married for 3 years. As a child, I traveled around much of the US, as a college student I backpacked through Eastern and Western Europe and as an adult I have been from Bora Bora to South Africa to Italy (I’ve traveled once a month since ...

I have known my incredibly perfect husband Ty (I really mean that, he really is) for 7 years and have been married for 3 years. As a child, I traveled around much of the US, as a college student I backpacked through Eastern and Western Europe and as an adult I have been from Bora Bora to South Africa to Italy (I’ve traveled once a month since I’ve been in England). I have two college degrees and some graduate school work and have taken many others classes and received numerous certificates along the way. I have lived in 5 cities and have worked in high end residential design, interior design on television, commercial real estate, real estate staging, the hotel industry, make-up, magazines, fashion and social work. I have owned 2 bridal websites, a website for interior design advice, and a website for Expat parents. As of August 2005, I have been an expatriate living in London with my husband Ty as he opens a new office for his company for a couple of years. Some call me indecisive, I call it exactly what I always wanted to do. I never wanted to be defined by just one thing I do, and I always knew I wouldn’t be. I feel my experiences have shaped who I am today and I can relate on just about any level and that’s what makes Doryn’s Dish work. Leaving my job, business, friends and family in New York last year was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I knew I couldn’t just sit around doing nothing at first, so I immediately started Doryn’s Dish which has been my savior. If I truly love something, I am the best sales person there is. I came up with the idea of Doryn’s Dish because I realized people were constantly asking me advice on the latest ANYTHING, and I knew I needed to put it online to give as many people access as possible. That developed into daily reviews and recommendations, and now that advice is being shared all over the world and I’m loving it! Doryn’s Dish is different from other sites because there is something for everyone on a daily basis. I do not get paid by the companies I write about so you always know my reviews and my enthusiasm are 100% genuine. The other great part of Doryn’s Dish is that as you become a frequent reader, you learn my voice and you learn that my recommendations are almost always right on. People often tell me that they love my site because they feel like I am their best girlfriend and I am always upbeat (except when someone I review is not nice) and my writing is laid back (I just write like I speak) and not too cutesy or wordy like some other sites. I only write about things I’ve tried and only do positive reviews (unless it’s a hotel or restaurant that I think could use a little constructive criticism, because the whole experience is never 100%). One of the more exciting parts of Doryn’s Dish is the weekly “Guest Dishers” that write pieces in their respective categories: Carolyn Ballen – Holistic Health Coach – Nutrition Dish, Arden Rosenfeld – Personal Trainer – Fitness Dish, Toni Hargis – Author of the Book Rules Brittania – US/UK Dish, Soraiya Karas – Personal Organizer – Organizing Dish, Joy Kenney – Pregnancy Dish, Debbie G. – Baby/Toddler Dish, and soon we will have a young doctor to address women’s issues and a financial consultant. There are also my weekly dishes which cover all things New York City and London reviewing new stores, businesses and new restaurants, my Interior Design Dish where I give out tips and review new designs and businesses, my Beauty Dish where I review new spas, tips and techniques, my Web Dish where I will tell you about the latest and greatest new websites, the Make-Up Dish for tips and Product Dishes where I write and review new products each week! Then there are always the added extras that come up. Being such a “people person” can be difficult when doing a Blog because it requires a lot of time behind the computer with no one else around. It was being interviewed by She Unlimited that inspired me to start the Doryn’s Dish Podcast . I love interviewing and I love attacking (not literally) people on the streets and at press events to ask them questions about the latest trends. People often say to me, “Doryn, how is it that you know that person’s whole life story when you JUST met them!” You will see more of this weekly on She Unlimited and on Doryn’s Dish coming up in the next few months as well as expert podcast segments and more of my reviews weekly. I hope you enjoy Doryn’s Dish and I always appreciate an email (link to dorynsdish@yahoo.com) to say “hi”! www.sheunlimited.com</itunes:subtitle>

Ignite the spark in your soul and lay down the tracks to the songs in your heart. Define your reason for being; go deep, soak up your essence, then honor your authentic self. Break the chains that bind you. Free yourself from your self-imposed restrictions and be courageous towards all that you dread. Don’t let the fear of judgment quell your spirit. Proudly flaunt your humanity, with all its exquisite imperfections. Experience the edge of life. Make mistakes. Color outside the lines. Go to the brim of what is familiar and jump off. After all, a vibrant life is filled with stops, starts and stumbles. Participate in your dreams and have faith. You are standing on the edge of bliss. Do it. Do that next big thing. Become your own hero.

Little Lubbaloo Interview

Lubbaloo means “I Love You”. When our oldest daughter was just a little baby, she lived in an orphanage in Russia. There was not a lot of money for food or toys, but there was always lots of love. As she grew up and flourished, we tried to teach her how to say “I love you” in Russian. But she insisted on saying it her own way – “Lubbaloo”. She even made up a song about it, often singing “I’m a Little Lubbaloo”. She was the original model for our clothing, and the inspiration for the line. Her unique spirit is amazing, magical and beautiful. And of course we wanted her clothing to match.
