AudioBlogger Success, New Storage for ODEO

It was a successful couple days in SF this week. While I was here, we were able to get AudioBlogger back online for those of you who didn't get a chance to back up your data before it went offline back in March sometime. It's on some really old gear but it's running and we'll try to keep it that way as long as we can to give people a chance to pull their mp3's out of the system. We are looking to create a couple of scripts to make it easy to access and download your mp3's from the system so keep an eye on the site over the next week. Any questions or problems getting to your data, open a ticket on odeo.com and we'll try to help as quickly as we can.

The other main project was the installation of a new, 7.5TB storage array. Odeo is running on some pretty old gear and replacing the old "pizza box" style storage servers was a top priority. The new system is all Seagate Barracuda 750GB drives with RAID 6 protection.

Finally, we are gearing up for new, dedicated bandwidth on our own GigE pipe. That switchover should happen in the next two weeks along with upgrading the internal BB to all GigE.

That's it for this update. The team is working in the background on some new developments and features that are much more exciting than the simple infrastructure upgrades that we are doing right now to stabilize Odeo so hang in there with us.

As always, feel free to drop comments, suggestions, etc to future@odeo.com

ODEO Support Desk

Just wanted to drop a note from the team with regards to the status of your requests for support. As you know, we are transitioning support for ODEO to our team here at SonicMountain. I was working with the trouble-ticket system this AM and discovered that we are getting over-run with SPAM and so we will be implementing some anti-spam controls for the contact page. Nothing like having to delete 400 copies of "Wow, fantastic site", "COOOOL" and other associated SPAM. In addition, as previously mentioned, we are still working on the feed-crawler and there was a significant time period where it was not functioning at all. That generated hundreds of tickets in an of itself. We have assigned additional resources to help work the backlog and will definately be much more responsive to your requests.

On a more positive note, many people opened tickets with the subject "can upload my content?" This is one of the features that we hope to turn on in the coming months along with better tools to locate, manage and synchronize your favorite content to your favorite portable device.

Stay Tuned!
