Tonight we added a feature to Odeo with the intention of helping you discover interesting new listening material. It's a list of links in a green box over on the side of Odeo Channel and Show pages titled "Other Interesting Channels."

The way it works is a little different than you might expect. While the recommendations are derived from what other people on Odeo are listening to, it's not limited to the most popular things. We've tweaked it a bit to try and find things that are related, but not necessarily obvious. It's only just launched and it's already
one of Ev's favorite features. Give it whirl!

Check out this
geek technique for how to hand crank power your iPod.

There's soldering and voltage regulation circuits involved (and you'd have to crank for hours if you wanted a good charge) so, you're probably not going to want to try this at home. Still, kudos to this guy for making it work maybe down the line there will be a simpler implementation that we could all use if we find ourselves stranded on a deserted island with lots of Odeos queued up on the ole 'pod.

I'm in Florida visiting my mom and I *almost* just bought some old-time radio broadcasts on CD so I could load up my iPod for the flight back to San Francisco. Then we came back to the house and I discovered
Spaceship Radio on Odeo. So I subscribed. Nice!

It seemed like more than one person asked me yesterday if they could use iTunes to subscribe directly to their Odeo Queue so I added this to the faq's:
Can I subscribe to my Odeo Queue directly using iTunes? (The answer is yes.)

iPod Nirvana:
To be honest, I don't really care much for Odeo's Syncr program. I think it's better than iPodder and a couple other podcatchers I've tried, but since iTunes has started supporting podcasts, I just don't see any benefit to using a third party app for my subscriptions.
What I do like about Odeo, though, is their site. Aside from being just oh-so-impressive with it's slick and strikingly beautiful Ajax interface, it has one of the best and most useful podcast directories available. The main thing I love is browsing the different shows, and actually being able to play them right there in the browser. As far as that goes, they've blown iTunes away.
Now they've released a really nifty Widget for OS X that focuses completely on that ability. The neat thing is, you don’t even have to have an account with them to browse, listen, and subscribe. You can enter a custom feed, and let the widget do the magic. If you're on Tiger, you should definitely check it out.
For the record, we're all for you using iTunes for downloading if you have it. It's a cleaner system, especially if you want to sync with an iPod! We created the Syncr, really, so another application wasn't required, but I use iTunes myself.

The scurvy dogs at Toshiba Corporation have developed the world's first
Gas-Powered Mp3 player. Well, by gas, they mean the volatile, colourless, flammable, poisonous liquid that is methanol.

Shiver me timbers, that's not something I want to be pouring into the abaft section of my iPod while commuting. (Today is
talk like a pirate day and I'm out of practice.)

Widgets are really neat.
That's why we made one. The Odeo Player is an Apple Widget that makes it easier to listen to your favorite shows. If you have an Odeo account, the Player gives you quick and easy access to the shows in your Queue. If you don't have an Odeo account, just enter a custom feed to hear your favorite podcasts. Nice.

I left Google on Tuesday and started working here at Odeo yesterday and I'm still getting acclimated today. What is this whole thing about money in exchange for food downstairs at the cafe? In fact, I'll admit, I'm still hunting around for blogs to point out. Like this one,
The OC Obsession. Heather digs The OC. (Which starts in fifteen minutes, by the way.) I wonder if she listens to
The OC Foxcast or
DJ Mel's exploration of the music featured on the OC? See how I did that? A little segue is what that was. Nice.
