Podcast Amongst Yourselves

Today we're launching a new version of Odeo with several big changes. The most notable is that everyone can now record audio with the browser-based Odeo Studio - or via the phone. Either way, your voice gets posted as an MP3 on an Odeo page, and from there you can easily share it or edit the title, etc.

We've also made some changes to how the site looks and works, which we think make it simpler and move it closer to our vision of Podcasting for Regular People. Here are a few major things you will notice:

New Home Page
For those who haven't joined or logged in yet, our home page is a simple, explanatory design that links to a short tour and signup form. Yes, the bird is wearing a hat and tie but Odeo is still about casual content creation.

The "Audio Inbox"
Once you're logged in, Odeo is more focused on you. All the audio that you subscribe to or has been sent to you by mutual contacts (that's another new thing) is collected in one spot. Any time you click your name in the upper-right corner or the Odeo logo in the upper-left corner, you're brought back to this page.

Make A Peep!
Once you create a recording, you can share it with your Odeo contacts or by email. Peeps are your Odeo contacts that you can add, delete, and otherwise manage. Or you can share your audio with the world by placing it in a channel.

We've put a lot of mojo into this update and we're really excited about the direction things are taking. For more info, have a look at our FAQs and if you have a specific question, email us and we'll help you out.

I love this new direction! Everything feels much more personal, more like it's MY odeo and I'm the only user. I dig it.

I was going to say I don't like it too much, but it does feel more personalized. Good job.

Still miss the front page though.

I love it!
I'm so happy that we can now use it to record our own podcasts.
:-)

Will there be an option in the future that you guys can offer for us so we can insert it in our blog entries?

THAT would be awesome.

I am in Japan and wonder how much the call charge would be to phone in a recording. Would it be a call to the USA?

I only get "Connecting" when I try to access the Studio.
Both in IE and Firefox.
Latest version of Flash and all :s
... and I was so looking forward to posting my first podcast.
Upgrades look good apart from this glitch,

I don't like how on my homepage, where it displays podcasts I haven't listened to, it cuts off the titles. It used to display the full title which was much more convenient. Now I have to guess what a given podcast is about because I can't read the full title. Any chance of reversing that change?

That's a good point about being able to read the whole title. We could try a few things -- an easy fix would be tool tips (when you hover over the text we could pop up the whole title).

Oh my goodness. This is so crazy awesome. I didn't think it was this easy. I wasn't really being serious when I did this but I recorded a 12-second audio when my wife was watching me over my shoulder.

I've been reading some unhappy reviews about this design, saying things like "simplicity kills" and so on. I don't know what their problem is, I think you did an excellent job.

Congrats.

It's very diffcult to let everyone like it. It's very familiar for me. come on your good job.
