Better English with Catherine

We have no idea if it's a joke or not, but we've been enjoying listening to interfm's Better English with Catherine which helps young japanese learn such important english phrases as you're so mean!, your toupee is crooked, she likes much older men, and the most useful of all he's dressed like Freddy Mercury.

This is no joke -- this type of segment is big business in Japan. There are pieces like this on TV, radio, and in the newspapers.

While young Japanese like learning idioms and slang and realize that these phrases are can't be used in all social situations, they often don't realize just how funny these shows sound to native english speakers.
